“Intricate and nuanced—on par with the best top-flight psychological suspense.” —L.A. Times

INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER

From master of suspense Lisa Unger comes a riveting thriller about a chance encounter that unravels a stunning web of lies.

Selena Murphy is commuting home on the train when she strikes up a conversation with a beautiful stranger in the next seat. The woman introduces herself as Martha and soon confesses that she’s been stuck in an affair with her boss. Selena, in turn, confesses that she suspects her husband is sleeping with the nanny. When the train arrives at Selena’s station, the two women part ways, presumably never to meet again.

Then the nanny disappears.

As Selena is pulled into the mystery of what happened, and as the fractures in her marriage grow deeper, she begins to wonder, who was Martha really? But she is hardly prepared for what she’ll discover…

Don't miss The New Couple in 5B, Lisa Unger's newest psychological thriller about a couple that inherits an apartment with a truly chilling past.

This is not the type of book you can listen to while doing other things. I really had to pay attention to all the characters, and there was a lot of going back and forth from past to present. I had trouble in the beginning, but I quickly figured things out. All the characters are intertwined and there were some surprises along the way. I really enjoyed this book.

Had to really pay attention

This was a well written book. It quickly grabbed my attention and then the introduction of new characters kept it suspenseful and well done on tying the characters together.

Attention Grabber!

I love how unpredictable Lisa Unger writes. Her stories have great twists and turns right up to the end. This story was no different. Really good characters that make you love them one minute then hate them the next. Excellent narrative also by Vivienne. Highly recommend!

So Good

Different but I liked it. The ending wasn't bad. I like that it makes you sympathetic for the con girls.

pretty good

This is a good book. The story is solid and the narration superb. While listening, I wasn't spellbound, but it did a fair job keeping my interest throughout the story. The characters were well-designed, because the twists and turns weren't obvious. I would recommend this one.

Nice thriller with a good twist.

I wasn't sure if this was going to be a book I enjoyed. So much foul language. Overall the story kept me intrigued.

I came into Confessions on the 7:45 with high expectations, especially as I’ve enjoyed many of Lisa Unger's previous works. She’s known for her ability to weave intricate psychological thrillers with gripping plots, and this one seemed to promise the same. However, I found myself disappointed by the overall execution.
On the surface, the premise had so much potential. Yet, as the story unfolds, it becomes clear that this narrative structure—while initially intriguing—quickly loses its momentum.
The biggest issue for me was the confusing plot and the disjointed character development. While thrillers often rely on twists and turns, in this case, the jumps between different perspectives and timelines felt chaotic and poorly executed. There was a lack of cohesion in the narrative that made it difficult to stay engaged or even care about the characters’ fates.
The characters themselves also felt somewhat underdeveloped. The emotional depth that usually drives psychological thrillers seemed to be missing. A good thriller thrives on empathy—when you care about the characters, their motivations, and their dilemmas. Unfortunately, that connection was lacking here, making it hard to invest in the story. I did not even finish it.

Unfortunately disappointed with this book...
