Publisher's Summary

From the New York Times best-selling author of The Wrong Man and Eyes on You comes a harrowing new psychological thriller about a successful self-help author who suddenly finds her life spiraling dangerously out of control.

What would you do if you realized that your new husband, a man you adore, is keeping secrets from you - secrets with terrifying consequences?

Bryn Harper, an accomplished self-help author, already has plenty to deal with. She's still recovering from a devastating car accident that has left her haunted by recurring, smoke-filled nightmares. Worse still, she can't shake the ominous feeling her dreams contain a warning.

In the beginning Bryn's husband, Guy, couldn't have been more supportive. But after moving into a new house together, disturbing incidents occur, and Guy grows evasive, secretive. What the hell is going on? she wonders. Then, a woman hired to cater their dinner party is brutally murdered.

As Bryn's world unravels - and yet another woman in town is slain - she must summon her old strength to find answers and protect her own life. Her nightmares may in fact hold the key to unlocking the truth and unmasking the murderer.

With unexpected, riveting twists, The Secrets You Keep is an utterly compelling psychological thriller that once again showcases Kate White's extraordinary storytelling talent.

Don't waste your time

Very boring and slow. The author threw in WAY too much irrelevant and mundane information and then suddenly at the end the story's antagonist nicely explains how and why they did all the things they did. I would highly recommend you skip this one.

Great puzzler.

I liked the suspense and the guessing back and forth about who the murder was. The only problem with the book was how her thought process kept guessing at every event that occurred. Other then that I would highly recommend it. The narrator was excellent and the overall mystery was great. I'd recommend it to anyone who loves who done its and thinks they can always guess the ending. I'm good at that but was wrong this time. J. C.

Decent mystery

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that there were many characters in the story so it didn't make it too obvious as to what to look for.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes, her narration was good but her accent aggravated me. It was almost that teenage accent where the word "friends" becomes "frunds".

Any additional comments?

This story followed along the lines of a good Lifetime movie, and I was entertained by it. There were some questions left unanswered though, so if you're the type who noticed every detail in a book, this may bother you. The ending could have been more dramatic too -it felt hurried. The main character's paranoia may be irritating at times, but it does help move the story along.

Overall a good read

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I was sucked in and had a hard time taking breaks from listening. The reader did a good job performing the characters, and she had a voice that wasn't annoying to listen to. My only real gripe isn't a real problem I guess. I just feel like the author prepped me for a huge climax and the way it played out didn't hold to that expectation. I'm not complaining, and I don't feel it was a bad ending. I just feel slightly let down by the lack of dramatics. But again, I really enjoyed the book and I'm glad I read it. I would read more by this author.

Meh...

First, let me say I am picky about narrators. I did not enjoy this narrator, and found all the voices she used in this book obnoxious. This, of course, can totally affect the way I feel about the story. However, I found this story both predictable and unrealistic. I told my husband that I felt like I had just listened to a soap opera. All of the events that happen to the main character are just SO improbable to be happening to one person (I understand it's a story, and I feel I'm open to levels of improbability). She constantly makes decisions that any normal human in that position would not make, and then is surprised by the consequences. I wanted to like this book, and I listened to the end, but mostly I just wanted it to end. I have listened to worse stories, but I have easily listened to such better books. In my opinion, don't waste your time.

Amazing story, relatable and thought provoking

Skillfully winds the everyday choices we make with their intrinsic results. Just when you think you have it all figured out, the mystery deepens. Great narrator, highly recommend.
