Interesting...

Honestly, I bought this book becauae the same author wrote "Before we were yours", an excellent book. This one, I had a hard time making it through the first few chapters, but once the story came together, it was very good.

I think part of what made it hard was the reader, though a great reader, her voice sounded like a senior woman, which made the romance parts hard to beleive as a young woman. The reader sounded more like a Grandmother than a young woman. Just a personal thing, but they really should cast the sound of the readers voice like they would a movie part....person needs to sound like the person they portray. Because of this, I almost did not finish the book....I would have missed out.

Great book...

This is a great book but it took me a little bit to get into it. The narrator’s voice sounded too old for the main character.

while i l9ved this story the voice actor was terrible! Her secondary characters were great but the main voice was horrible draging a great story into a slow drag listen.

I found this book interesting and had not anticipated the ends! I agree with some other reviewers, the narrators sounds too old to be 38-40 years of age.

I’m a “late arrival” to Lisa’s books but I am working my way through them all! Really like her style! Great storyteller!

Excellent story woven into three books!

Loved how these three different stories of women’s lives conclude on the end to be very connected. Loved all of them.

The Story Within the Frame

The frame events in this story can be difficult to follow—the characters, the mixed settings, the plot. But the historical story within the frame is well worth staying with the book.
Ms Wingate considers several challenging concepts with grace. I learned many details about Carolina history that were totally unfamiliar to me.
My favorite character is Clyde, whose story is similar to that of many young men of the 1960s and 70s. After almost choosing to stop listening, I am glad I continued to learn the surprising conclusion.

Fun!

Love this kind of story. I like how it connected the other book to this one. I do wish the story had been a bit more detailed. I’d listen to another by this author.
