Publisher's summary

Max and Ruby Saddlerwhite are newlyweds who seem to have it all. They have mastered the rules of love and navigated the challenges of a long-term relationship, and now they are settling happily into married life and beginning their careers.

There’s just one thing Ruby wants – to start a family.

And that’s something Max isn’t sure she can give her. She has learned to work through the challenges of life and love on the autism spectrum by researching her way through major obstacles, but a baby is a challenge Max might not be up for.

Ruby pushes aside dreams of starting her own family when Max’s cousin Stacy gets called to active duty, leaving behind her seven-year-old son, Aiden. She needs Max and Ruby to take care of him while she’s deployed and they rise to the occasion.

It’s not all play time and games, though, as Aiden struggles with separation anxiety and the rulebooks fly right out the window as Max and Ruby discover just how difficult raising a child can be.

Can Max and Ruby master the rules of parenthood, or will Ruby’s dream go unfulfilled?

What an awesome journey

I was so impressed with this book. Cara Malone did an outstanding job of making Max's differing abilities and the challenges they present in such a real way that alone warrants 5 stars. The nice part is that there is not a piece of this book that is any less than 5 stars. From the passion Ruby and Max share to all the angst involved in the plot line it is real and inviting. Teri Clark Linden did a stellar job of bringing the characters to life and the emotional shifts were well done. Feel good books are not my general genre. That being said this is more than a feel good book yet at the conclusion I felt affirmed and am hoping for more books to this series.I have not read any of the previous ones so I am now going to back track. I am grateful that Cara Malone gave me an ARC copy of this book. I am sad to say that I may have missed this novel altogether had that not happened. Her books are now on my women loving women TBR list. To share anymore would require a spoiler so take the risk and enjoy the path that Max and Ruby journey.

Sweet story

This was a very sweet story. The plot development was very well done. The two main characters and Jaden’s character were wonderful. I have a grandniece who is on the Spectrum. Max reminds me of her.
The narration was excellent.
