She is the gift he did not want. He is the prince she is forbidden to love.

Shortlisted for the Woollahra Digital Literary Awards 2017

Companions are the kingdom’s most beautiful and educated women - possessions of Syrasan’s royal men.

Aldara is 16 when she is sold to the obnoxious crown prince as a gift for his brother. Forced to leave the only life she has ever known, Aldara is sent to Archdale Castle, where she is mentored to become Prince Tyron’s perfect Companion. But no amount of lessons can prepare her for the troubled man marked by war. He sees straight through the polished exterior presented to him. He sees her. She must keep the facade together or deal with the repercussions.

Prince Tyron has just returned from war. All he wants is privacy to grieve the men who died at the border. So when his brother gifts him a Companion upon his return, he is forced to embrace a tradition he has so far managed to avoid. Except Aldara is not like the others. She walks with her face to the sun and arms swinging. Her laughter makes him forget the lie. But if they ignore the rules that safeguard them, there will be consequences....

This is book one in The Companion series. If you enjoy medieval romance that is out of this world, then this epic tale of love against all odds is for you.

Trigger warning: This book contains sexual violence, death, and dark themes.

Please note: This is part one of Tyron and Aldara's story. Their story continues in books two and three.

Too many similar names but good story

Great story but hard read with so many names that were so similar. Bring a pen and paper to follow along...

Should have been a warning for rape scene!

I'm sorry, no actually I'm not sorry for what I'm going to write because I'm pissed that Aldara (who was a virgin) was raped by 2 men while Tyron was gone (all set up by his evil, perverse brother) and it was descriptive enough to make me sick. At first I thought....no Tyron will come and save her but when it kept going I was sick to my stomach!! Aarrrggg!!! This is the reason I read as much reviews before I read books just so I don't read about rapes and there was no warning or trigger about this! And what gets me is that the author was more descriptive about her rape than she is in any love scenes between her and Tyron! I mean really?!?!? So, for those of you who don't like to read that disturbing stuff stay away.

Amazing!

WOW! Talk about historical romance! Tanya takes you into the past with all of her writing and paints a vivid picture for your imagination. I'm almost convinced that she has a time machine and goes back for inspiration. This series is an epic love story for sure. The characters beautifully written and T. makes you feel what they feel. You will definitely go through the motions with this book and series. There is a HEA for Aldara and Tyron at the end of their story, not this book though. Amazing read and I highly recommend for anyone who loves historical romance. I have fallen in love with Tanya Bird's work! I would put her in the same category as Phillipa Gregory. I can so see The Royal Companion series being made into movies or even TV shows! Happy reading and I hope you enjoy these books as much as I did!!
