About this listen

An injured rugby star, his pregnant roommate, and one rule they can’t break: Don’t date the owner’s daughter.

It was supposed to be an easy house- and dog-sitting gig while the owner was gone for a month. But when my sportsing landlord comes home unexpectedly, injured and in need of a new arrangement, we end up as accidental roommates instead.

But if Holt Webster, the tall, thick-muscled, square-jawed, broody-eyed rugby player, had told me he played for the Copper Valley Pounders, I would’ve told him that my stepdad bought the team while I was working cruise ships overseas.

And he would’ve noped out of offering me a place to stay because the only thing worse than looking like you’re flirting with the owner’s daughter is looking like you’re hooking up with the owner’s pregnant daughter.

Yes, yes, I’m that woman—the one who accidentally got knocked up, decided to keep the baby, and had to move home because pregnancy and cruise ships aren’t a good match.

And now I’m that woman who doesn’t just look like she’s hooking up with an off-limits player. I actually am hooking up with an off-limits player. But who can blame me? He’s hot. He’s kind. And he’s spending our nights sleeping with his hand on my baby bump.

Claiming us both.

But if my dad finds out, Holt’s gone. And we’ll be…rucked.

The Roommate Mistake is a heart-tugging sports romcom featuring two people in need of new best friends, a dog with an attitude, and a very…fowl…meet-cute. It stands alone and comes complete with a found family happily ever after.
Content note: This book contains a character dealing with the loss of his brother to cancer.

Love this romcom!

Laugh, cry, love, Pippa Grant has a true gift at bringing all the feels. This book had me from the start, and then had me when Jessica the dog came in! Ziggy's pregnancy has her coming back to her parent's town to settle down. But they can be stifling. Needing her own space, she takes up Holt's offer to house sit while he goes to Europe. She would have the place to herself along with his dog and give her the space to help her find her own place. But an injury has him home early, as the two butt heads and get to know each other. But the most important thing was never discussed. Finding out her stepdad owns the team this rugby player is on adds a new dimension of difficulty to the scene. Grant had me laughing from the beginning. The chemistry is strong between these two, the banter their foreplay and the dog the comic relief. I was laughing out loud! Loving Holt is easy. His heart is huge and he is just lovable. Ziggy is loyal and unforgiving when she knows she is right. I love her steadfast love. But Jessica the dog is the standout. Loved her. This is a fabulous addition to the CV Pounders series. Always a pleasure to listen to Grant's books.

Connor Crais and Kit Swann are the perfect picks for this narration. Crais has the warmth in his voice that is Holt. The good man he is, the huge heart he has and the love he gives all come through his voice. Swann gives the best internal monologue voice as Ziggy talks to herself, coming to the best decisions and loving Holt. The comedic timing is spot on and I loved their performance.

Story was good but…

Kit wasn’t the right female narrator for this story IMO. She made Ziggy so whiny, it made it difficult to finish. Enjoyed the read and characters. The audible not so much.

Funny and Emotional

While this one was funny, Holt and Ziggy’s story has more emotion than book one, but no less laughs. The dog was freaking hilarious and I love that Holt’s brother could talk to it. I really liked Ziggy’s sister. But the ex friend of hers was a wanker. Also through out the book, the devastation Ziggy felt over losing her bff kind of got on my nerves. That part was repetitive, but other than that their story was so much fun!

All the swoons!

This is the swooniest book I’ve encountered in a long time. It ticked boxes I didn’t know existed. From the hilarious meet cute to the final bonus epilogue it was perfection. Holt is the strong yet vulnerable type of hero I love (shades of Ares Berger) and Ziggy makes me want to hug her and offer to be her new bestie. I won’t rehash the plot but it was really satisfying and felt “right”. These people were meant to find each other and life was supposed to happen this way.

As always, the audio narration was outstanding. I’m more familiar with Connor Crais as a narrator than I am with Kit Swann but they were excellent together. I’m so excited rugby romance is becoming more popular and hope there are more Copper Valley Pounders stories in the future.

This is going to be one of my favorite Pippa Grant series and this will be my favorite book in the series.

Connor Crais was such a great narrator.
I really enjoyed his smooth voice and he draws you into the story.

Kit Swann has a unique voice.
Her inflections were spot on.
I loved how she really gets into character.

Pippa Grant has out done herself with this book.

It captures your heart and won't let go.

Holt Webster was an European Rugby star who has ended up in the US playing.
Rugby is not a well known sport in the US and he is trying to get back into the European league where he feels he really belongs.

He meets Ziggy Barns at his off season job, as a security officer, eating a whole rotisserie chicken in her car with her bare hands.
Pregnancy cravings are no joke.

When he feels like he is part of the reason for loosing her job, he offers her a place to stay while he's over in Europe for six weeks trying to secure a spot on their rugby team.

She needed to resign from her job on a cruise ship, do to morning sickness, she knows that she doesn't want to live with her parents, and so decides that this will give her time to find a decent place to live and find a new job.

When Holt shows up back home because he broke his foot they suddenly become roommates.

One problem Holt works for her father, who own the Rugby team, and doesn't want any of the players even looking at his daughters, and has made it perfectly clear what will happen if they do.

When forced to live together these two just belong together and they will have to figure out how to convince her family of their happiness.

I love the sub characters and how well written they are and can't wait to get to intimately know each person on this team.

Grumpy is Sunshine

Holt has had some bad breaks lately with his brother dying and working security. Ziggy is home because she's going to be a single mom and wants to be close to her family. Holt accidentally gets her fired from her job, then offers her a job dog sitting while he's in Europe playing rugby. He gets hurt and has to come back to recover. He couldn't let Ziggy know since his phone was stolen. He decides to let her stay in the house and they'll make it work. I really liked that he could hear his brother's voice telling him things that he needed to know. Neither one knows that she's the stepdaughter of the owner of the local rugby team that Holt is the captain of and has forbidden the players from dating his daughters. Nothing good can come of Ziggy and Holt living in the same house and starting to get feelings for each other. Connor Crais and Kit Swann really bring the story to life.

Holt❤️Ziggy--Park'g lot poultry, Naked Tuesdays

What does Ziggy, a pregnant, jobless, homeless, food/wine expert with all-day morning sickness & Holt, an injured rugby captain, who's used to taking care of everyone else, but now needs help himself have in common? They're roommates in Pippa's 2nd book in the Copper Valley Pounders series, & it would be a mistake to miss this one! Oh yeah, the other thing they have in common but don't realize until feelings are involved--Ziggy's stepdad owns the Pounders, & doesn't like his daughters & players fraternizing. This story is everything I love about Pippa's books -- a mix of LOL hilarity, tender/heartfelt moments, wild/whacky escapades, zany pet antics, with just enough steam/spice. I absolutely loved Ziggy, Holt, Tater Tot, Jessica (dog), & their story. Also love that some of the nasty characters get back a little bit of what they've sown. And the epilogues were fantastic!

Kit Swann and Connor Crais performed the dual narration & they absolutely nailed it! Perfect picks by Pippa! There were tons of 2ndary characters here -- old, young, humans, pets -- Connor & Kit gave them all a unique voice so that you would forget it was just one person doing the narration! I listen to Connor a lot & enjoy how talented he is at voices & accents. This is only the 2nd time hearing Kit, but man is she talented, too! Great performances by both! They made this audio so easy to listen to. I didn't want to put it down, finished in a single session, & thoroughly enjoyed it! I'd give it +5☆☆☆☆☆ if I could!
