Great audible book, resounding virtue and instillations of American providence; need of gain, for grain volume to resound!

This is a name-clearing polemic

This is interesting if you’re studying he historical details of the confederate government. However Mr Davis spends long periods trying to justify banal actions and often at the expense of his generals. There was nearly a chapter spent trying to prove he didn’t order a halt to the pursuit at first Manassas, with subtle jibes at Johnston all the while. The same tedium was employed explaining his government’s right to raise armies and not militias. Probably the most annoying part was his hypocritical insistence that the Confederacy was a sovereign nation AND that the Union was unconstitutionally invading it. Sorry you can’t have it both ways.

not what I expected

It's reads more like a legal brief: President Davis obviously was a very well educated man, he gives a legal argument for the leaving of the South from the Union. There are many historical facts listed. Not having a legal background it was hard for me to follow.

Very Important Work.

This is an incredibly important piece of work on American History. Jefferson Davis clearly and expertly explains why the South Seceded. He tells of the truth of the War for Southern Independence and of States Rights as intended by the Founding Fathers and the Original Interpretation of the Constitution. If you want to know why the South Seceded, this is a wonderful work. If you want to understand States Rights as originally layed out in the Constitution, this is a wonderful piece to study. This book should be taught in all American Schools. 10/10.
