"Everyone sees what you appear to be, few experience what you really are." (Nicolò Machiavelli)

The Prince is a 16th-century political treatise by the Italian diplomat and political theorist Niccolò Machiavelli. The Prince is sometimes claimed to be one of the first works of modern philosophy, especially modern political philosophy, in which the "effectual" truth is taken to be more important than any abstract ideal. It is also notable for being in direct conflict with the dominant Catholic and scholastic doctrines of the time, particularly those concerning politics and ethics. Although it is relatively short, the treatise is the most remembered of Machiavelli's works and the one most responsible for bringing the word "Machiavellian" into usage as a pejorative. It even contributed to the modern negative connotations of the words "politics" and "politician" in western countries.

The Prince is a good book for people who like history, especially Italian history, politics, and human nature. It was written 500 years ago so some parts are dated but other points are still relevant. I first read it in college for a philosophy class but was not that interested. The second time around I enjoyed it especially after knowing more about the history of the time and watching historical fiction shows like The Borgias, Game of Thrones, and The Last Kingdom.

Good book for history lovers

A classic on the nature of power made much more accessible with good narration and solid annotations/commentary. The short run time is still packed with a lot of ideas to explore without a heavy commitment.
