Publisher's Summary

He's the biggest, baddest, most spider-fearing motherpucker on the ice....

When you're named after the king of the gods, the world expects certain things of you.

Tough? Damn right.

Smart? Don't let the hockey uniform fool you.

Large and in charge? Honey, I'm the biggest, baddest, mother pucking-est machine to ever own the ice. I shoot. I score. In and out of the rink. I don't come early, but I come often, if you know what I mean. And I always leave the ladies wanting more.

Until that chick last night.

I'm no one-thrust wonder, and you're damn right I'm going to prove to her I can do better. But every time I think I'm finally on my way back into her pants, she one-ups and out-balls me.

I should cut my losses, lick my wounds, and walk away.

But Zeus Berger doesn't walk away from anything.

Especially when she's the only woman in the world who might be able to handle me.

The Pilot and the Puck-Up is a stand-alone romantic comedy featuring a hockey player whose ego is the only thing bigger than his shoe size, the most badass woman to ever fly a plane, rubber chockey (don't ask), and no cheating or cliffhangers.

Gah

Really? Awesome? Hilarious? Nope, it was more annoying than funny. Childish? Yup! She makes her sister sound like she had no backbone and would sleep with 9 guys at once if she wasn’t there to save her honor. I could go on, but the story is less than 1/2 way over and I’m irritated that I can’t get my credit back 😢.

Duet narration people! Worth the credit!

I listen to way to many books and I almost always listen to them sped up to at least 1.25 if not 1.5 but if they are bad zoom it up to 2. I haven’t listen to an audio book at regular speed like ever. But pippa’s dialogue is so damn fast and bright and so entertaining that I have to slow it down. It blew my mind when I was missing stuff. I never miss stuff. Her dialogue is just so damn good and so damn quick. I didn’t think I was going to be into this book when I read the description. An alpha female type is an interesting one to read and the balance can be super off but damn she nails it. It was in my wishlist... but when I found out it was duet narrated I immediately clicked buy. To the marketing team who reads these... stick duet narration in big bold letters on the cover in the description etc and insta buy! I really loved this story and you can’t get better than jason clarke and Erin Mallon with hockey and flying.

Not for me.

This one just didn't do it for me. It was OK. I listened to the audiobook and while Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke are two of my favorite narrators, I still had issues and just couldn't get into this book. I rarely DNF, so I listened to the whole thing (again, mainly because I love Jason and Erin) but was shaking my head through a lot of it. The constant horny-ness and talk about sex was a bit annoying, (and don't get me wrong, I love a romance with lots of heat) and although this is supposed to be a romcom, I didn't find myself laughing very much. Zeus was likeable enough but I didn't care for Joey. It was just over-the-top and I wasn't relating to the characters At All! It was okay enough that I listened to the whole thing, but it wasn't a very engaging or enjoyable read for me.

One of my FAVORITES!

I have fast become one of Pippa's biggest fans, but this book had me literally laughing out loud! I fell in love with these characters in the other books but I absolutely love the way she gave them their own story. I love the way she wrote Zeus with humility but still kept his alpha character. 5 stars and can't wait for more from Pippa!

So much fun!

I always love Pippa Grant’s book. They are well-written, funny as heck, and so original. Zeus Berger is one of the funniest, snarkiest, and just so over-the-top lovable charachers ever written, and add Jason Clarke’s narration, and my mind is blown! Zeus is one of those characters that you worry about a narrator doing him justice and capturing the funny nuances, but Jason Clarke is perfectly cast. Erin Mallon is a fantastic Joey as well. Loved this listen.

Hilarious & All Things Awesome!

Pippa is made of awesome! Her characters are so original! I had a smile plastered on my face from the first few minutes! This book has everything: Humor, positive role models, Berger hijinks, and details behind the amazing character that is Zeus Berger. I have been waiting for Zeus' story since the beginning, and this definitely delivered. All along I have wondered who could be a match for that larger-than-life person/personality. Joey is so freaking cool! I love her attitude, independence, and rock star ability to kick everyone's ass and make no apologies! She is PERFECT! Only Zeus could recover from a start like this one, with his ego intact. From the very first scene in that PERFECT outfit he was everything I have come to love about the Berger Twins, and more! This sex-positive, snort-laugh-generating, deep-in-a-sneaky-way romance is everything Berger-worthy - and more! Two of my favorite narrators were just the icing on this duet-style narration with excellent performances! Definitely worth the credit. Stellar performances, hilarious dialogue, sticky situations! Audio brought hidden depths to the surface

I read Pilot and the Puck Up and laughed, enjoying what a goofball Zeus Berger is. I always enjoy Pippa Grant books. Then I listened to the audio when it became available. Wow. Hearing Zeus’s words and thoughts voiced by Jason Clarke brought a depth and vulnerability to a larger than life character. I admit to being guilty of the same thing that most people in the world are when it comes to Zeus Berger- seeing the big body, the prankster persona, the showboat- and missing the man underneath who loves his family, who doesn’t want to be hurt, who worries about being good enough but hides it by being too much. Hearing him changed all that. Then there is Joey. She is strong, she is tough, she is fierce. She is also lonely, and scared, and guarded. She expects to be hurt so it is easier to just not let people in rather than risk them having the power to hurt her. Erin Mallon was the perfect person to bring Joey to life. The duet narration style was perfection, the interaction of Jason and Erin as Zeus and Joey (as well as the other characters) was superb. It didn’t feel like I was listening to the story, it felt like I was experiencing it. As always, Pippa Grant brings the humor and the heart to a story.

Love this series!

Ok so I've read or listened to all the books in the series and I previously read this story and have now listened to the audiobook. What can I say- this book is hilarious. The photo is perfect in how I think about Zeus. He's a massive hockey player and what I loved the most is how many times he screwed up while trying to impress Joey. I also adored how strong and smart Joey was and how she bested Zeus in everything, leading to SO. MANY. LAUGHS. This book was funny, sweet, and we got to catch up with or meet many of the characters from other books in this world. And this is a fun world, filled with weird but lovable people that just make you root for them. And Zeus, he's one of them- because even though he's one of the best hockey players in the world. he still is a puck-up. And the laughs are non-stop. I have the ebook and the audiobook and the audiobook is in duet style with Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon. The narration is amazing- there's a reason Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon are two of my favorite narrators. Jason Clarke is perfect as Zeus but I have to admit that I loved it when he played Manning, the hockey playing Prince (the accent- sigh). Manning's story is next (Royally Pucked) and it is just as enjoyable. I'll be listening to that audiobook next and I can't wait. If you're looking for laughs and swoons along the way, this is a great book with a fantastic narration team.

Loved it as much as I did the ebook!!

I’ve never been big on the thought of actually listening to audio books and have only recently discovered how much I enjoy them.... mind you, it helps when you listen to stories by some of your favourite authors!! I loved reading the kindle ebook of The Pilot and the Puck-Up and felt no less about the audible version!! Jason Clarke & Erin Mallon did an excellent job narrating the story (I could listen to them both read all day - which is pretty much what I did today!! 😉) though having a great tale to work with helps a tad I’m sure. Pippa Grant is a whizz when it comes to humour, heart and heat and I’m an definite fan.... I’m looking forward to listening to more of my fave books by her!

Funny and Romantic!

I can always count on a great listen when I pick up a Pippa Grant book. But this one really hit home with me. Zeus Berger is a huge man, demanding on the ice and can find women anywhere. Now he has met his match with Joey Fireball, the one woman who sees him, and gets him. But will he charm her enough to win her heart? I could not get enough of this book. I love romantic comedies, and yes, this one made me laugh out loud. What I found really endearing about this one though was Zeus. He is so lovable, and so big, and while not clumsy has that feeling of tripping over himself just to be near Joey. Joey is feisty, smart and ambitious but Zeus is getting under her skin. Joey is a model to all women and shows us how nothing is out of our reach. Does she have time to put into a relationship? This is a fun, easy listen, made my day full of love and laughter. Keep bringing them Pippa! The narration team of Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon is epic for rom coms. They both have such great style, find the depth of their character and pull it out and have incredible comedic timing. This duet style was amazing and I loved every minute.

My new favorite Rom-Com!!

I absolutely loved this book! This is now one of my favorite rom-coms. I will definitely be listening to it again. I smiled and laughed through the entire book. Narration was fabulous and I loved the characters. If I could give this more than 5 stars I would. I 100% recommend this book if you are looking for something fun and sexy to listen too. 🎧Audiobook Obsession

Too brash and crass

I just was not enamoured with this book. The characters were all too much. Too bold, foul mouthed, opinionated, egotistical, etc. I did not really like any of them. The spider thing though, was very funny.

⭐️ [5/5 Stars] ⭐️

Okay. This was easily the most fun I’ve ever had while reading/listening to a book. Ever. I don’t know how it’s possible that I literally had a smile on my face the entire rime, and I giggled so so much. Did this book have any real substance?? Nope. Did I love it anyway? Hell yeah. It was just fun. It was light and funny and Joey is probably my favourite heroine maybe ever. She is what I would slap under the definition of bad bitch. She’s ruthless, funny and independent. I’m so tired of the whole “i’m a virgin so i’m fragile” thing; I’ve read a lot of them and for the most part, they’re all fucking ridiculous. It’s like they’ve never even been touched or fingered or gotten off in private and it always makes me roll my eyes. This is why I like joey so much. She’s technically a virgin but there’s no beating around the bush. She self pleasures, like normal! Finally! The only irritating thing about her was how protective she is of her sister. It was a little overboard sometimes. Let’s talk about Zeus. Holy hell do I love him. He’s a huge teddy bear and I want to give him a big, fat, hug. He’s cocky and arrogant as hell, sooooo funny, and yet, he embarrasses the shit out of himself several times in front of Joey. It’s magical. There’s something so funny about a huge ass man having his ego reduced to the size of a pea all because of a pretty girl. When I say Zeus humiliates himself, I mean it. It’s glorious. Plus, he really is just a big insecure baby who wants to be loved. It’s really adorable. He might be up there with my fave hero’s, too. This was just really adorable and funny and I needed it. Sometimes it’s nice to take a break from all the hard and heavy shit and read something light hearted, whether the story has substance or not. I’d probably read this a million times over.

Fun, light hearted, OTT humour

The Pilot & the Puck-Up is a very light hearted read/listen. This author is all about OTT humour and characters that are completely ridiculous at times, but she provides a nice break from the more angsty reads. The 2 main characters in this story, Zeuss and Joey, are not at all angsty. I felt zero angst listening to this, but I did smile and laugh a lot at their OTT antics and behaviour. Joey is the determined and capable pilot, she is beyond protective of her *little* sister, she is one tough customer. She excels in her chosen profession, and she takes NO crap from anyone. Zeuss is the huge, enormous hockey player, who makes a habit of embarrassing himself in Joey's presence. He also has a phobia of spiders, which leads to some funny scenes across the story. Lots of secondary characters that play a large part in the story - family and friends of Zeuss and Joey. I haven't listened to all of their stories yet, but this would be easily read/listened to as a standalone. Fabulous narration by Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon - I recommend listening to this authors books rather than reading, as she has some awesome narrators performing across her books, that do a great job with the OTT humour and making for a really fun listen.
