Keeps my toddler in bed for an extra 40 minutes!

Would you listen to The Owl Who was Afraid of the Dark again? Why?

Yes, we downloaded this for my two year old son, who is now very curious about owls. He listens to this over and over, and it can buy his tired parents an extra half-hour of sleep while he listens.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, the characters are interesting, and the story is engaging.

Any additional comments?

A good book to help little ones learn about new things - like flying in the dark.

This is an abridged version

Have you listened to any of Bill Oddie’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Bill Oddie does a good job, but I grew up with the Maureen Lipman version and that's untouchable for me.

Any additional comments?

This is not unabridged, as advertised. It is heavily edited and misses all of the books wonderful humour.

This is NOT by Maureen Lipman, but Bill Oddie

If you came here from Amazon and expected this to be the version by Maureen Lipman, because you clicked on the link from the Maureen Lipman version, this is not. The link from Amazon is wrong and you may waste your money if you proceed, I did! Very unimpressed.

Bad voice

Heard it before and thought it was the same one however it was another narrator that completely ruined the story. Overall not impressed.

Disappointing

This is certainly not to be compared with the Maureen Lipman version which was amazing. Everything fell short

Cut short, not the full story. Very annoyed

This is not the full version. This story and tape are one of the very happy memories I have as a child and that's why I know it word for word and this is not the full story and for the price I think that's terrible. Very annoyed would like a refund as I can't listen to this.

Too wit to what

The main story was reasonable. Unfortunately there were several chapters with nothing in them just a waste of space and time.

Not as long as you are led to believe

there is only one chapter of actual story - the rest is just Bill Oddie waffling on about imagining you are an owl or singing!! The story itself is nice enough, but this is nothing like the usual Jill Tomlinson stories. This is a preschool picture book, rather than a chapter book. I much prefer her other stories and also prefer Maureen Lipman narration.
