Publisher's summary

After the chaos of Tellus—the world of the spear users—Randidly Ghosthound returns to Earth needing time to recover and heal.

Randidly's Skills have grown at a rapid pace, keeping him far ahead of any individual on his home planet. Yet the System has continued its own methodical advance, meaning Randidly has no time to take the rest he needs.

Zone 32 now hosts two Champions; individuals provided by the System who can teach unique Skills to their followers. In the one corner, wreathed in a green light, comes the Wild Rider. Opposite her stands the stark and intimidating Skeleton Knight. The previously isolated populations come together, clustering around these two figures.

By the time word reaches Randidly that his friends Ace and Sydney yet live, a harsh truth is revealed: in the end, there can only be one Champion of Zone 32.

On the horizon, an even larger decision looms. In order to keep ahead of the curve and create a miracle, Randidly can only think of one possibility: to finally obtain a Class of his own. Not from a Village Spirit, but forged with his own hands.

This is book four of the hit LitRPG fantasy series with over 50 Million views on Royal Road.

Good but thin.

Let me preface by saying that I like this series a lot. I read a mountain of books in my free time and while doing chores or commuting. While it may not be the fairest criticism, I forgot a lot about the previous books until going back and reading summaries. Even thinking about this book now, there are some parts that I’ll probably forget about before the next one releases. Don’t get me wrong, I do like this series and I will read the next book, but there’s something critical missing that makes the story somewhat forgettable amongst the authors’ LitRPG contemporaries; tangible and relatable stakes.

Sure there are undisclosed issues with the system, and some things are less then fair and they’ve explained a very intriguing and interesting magic and skill system that has been expanded on by a class system. But why do we follow Randidly in this adventure? Why does he Ghosthound?

We have his backstory, more or less, friends, foes and frenemies, there’s an entire other world we’ve explored and I still barely understand what’s happening to earth and why Randidly cares apart from fondness for a town he kickstarted and hangs out at sometimes when he’s not fighting. He doesn’t really take responsibility for the town, he spends very little time trying to improve his social acumen in a system that would literally reward him for doing so. It just feels less important than being cool for coolness sake and seeking challenge to eventually protect something or someone he hasn’t met yet or committed to.

Maybe this issue is a nail to my editor hammer, and no one else feels similarly, but I would be excited to see Randidly experience actual unquantifiable character growth and find equals he could relate to. Whether that’s on his planet or another, he needs to become more than he was at the outset, and find tempering in a system built to do so. Otherwise I will continue to find it hard to care about a hero with an ephemeral villain he will eventually fight in another novel, especially when he has no peers and by design is less than relatable.

return to form

While I had a few minor gripes with book 3 they were obviously not enough to keep me from getting this book, and 4 is a return to what I loved in the previous ones without much of the tacked on cultivation...
So stop reading this and get to listening

I really don't like the minimum word count requirements for audible reviews. . . .

Almost couldn’t finish

Spoilers

Despite EVERYTHING this man has done, all those people backstabbed him in the end… I almost couldn’t finish the end. I hated every second of the BS betrayal.

yet again a great combination of drama and litrpg

this fails to dissapoint you have to start from the begining and fallow through it is a epic story with just enough danger to fear for the mc i highly reccomend this story its nuances are noticeable and the tie in from character to character is emphasized with the reactions from other characters voice acting is and i cant stress this enough ON POINT yet again he delivers a fantastic preformance.

Pretty Good. (Fav's List)

I admit I was a little put off at the beginning of the book when the Ghosthound lost some of his powers and went unconscious for a few weeks! I almost stop listening right there. I then went to reading these comments and was pretty upset with myself for not doing it before the purchase. There were good comments too, but at that moment I was resonating with the negative comments.

I forced myself to continue listening and I am glad I did. He did get better and fix what was broken, I am guessing some of the people that left those negative comments did exactly what I almost did and stopped after a few chapters. I enjoyed the book, I was not crazy about the abrupt ending. I will definitely get the next book.

Even still this book is on my Fav's List.

My Top 5 LitRPG's all available on Audibles:
* The Legend of Randidly Ghosthound
* The Way of The Shaman
* He Who Fights With Monsters
* Defiance of The Fall
* Unbound Deathloard
