Very disappointing narration

I enjoyed my visit to modern Bali along with significant historical revelations. Morrissey researches her topics well and invariably advocates for those fighting for the environment and those big businesses exploiting our fragile world.
But this interesting book was seriously let down by the reader. In fact, it's a compliment to the storyline that I actually finished it.
The reader...oh dear. The narrative flow jarred as she paused between direct speech and the she said, he said etc....a narration sin! Occasional jarring misreading of the sentence structure. Painful dragging out of the narration. Ghastly American accent. Yet for all that, a lovely voice and occasional proficient voice acting.

Great story, annoying narrator

Not my favorite Di Morrissey book but very enjoyable. Unfortunately the narrators ‘snobby’ voice affected the warmth of the characters.

probably the worst narrated book so far

I did give it a go because I do like Di Morrissey's books and if I could get used to the narrator I may have persisted longer...however this actress was probably the worst I ever heard. The book is written by an Australian writer, story plays in Australia, narrated by an Australian actress yet she sounds like she was narrating a 19th Century book written by an English governess. It is terrible. I think I stop here, let's just say i was disappointed.

entertaining story, reading annoying

The reader makes the characters sound like they are always surprised and confused about the conversations. But the story is quite good.

Disappointing

I am a fan of Di Morrissey but I found this tedious and the main character weak and insipid. I could not finish it.

Predictable and sappy

I enjoyed the threading of the true account of Katut Tantri throughout this book but the story was predictable and very long. The main character was unrealistic and too ‘perfect’ in every way, even her mother, daughter and bestie were faultless.
The narrator spoke so slowly I had to speed up the sound so I could bare listening. She also made Grace sound like a petulant child at times.

The last Paradise

Can’t even finish the audible because the narrator is so bad. It’s just ruining the story which I think could be ok. Such a waste of credit. I would recommend reading this rather then listening.

This was a real battle to get through

On reading the blurb on this book it sounded interesting but the moment I began listening, I knew this one was going to be a chore. The narrators voice was not easy to listen to, The whining and patronising tone, along with the posh accent made the story even more tedious and monotonous to get through. The story had glimpses of promise, but the main character became annoying and spineless after awhile. My future purchases would definitely be impacted if this narrator is featured.

Hard to listen to and impossible to believe

Main character is unbearably unlikeable; I am not sure if this is a result of the narration or the text, or a combination of both. The plot is weak and could easily be summarised in a sentence. "Events" are lacking in depth, meaning and exploration making it surrealistic and read more like an imagined fantasy. I finished the book so as not to waste the credit, but spent more time drifting off in my own tasks/thoughts and not caring if I missed parts of the story - and it did not have an impact on the plot given the complete lack of twists and turns in the predictable plot.
