Publisher's summary

Patricia just wants to spend more time in the company of Alistair Huntley, the offensively handsome captain of the Aurelia who seems only too happy to host her. But as the Aurelia sets sail from Miami, it does so with a dangerous new addition: There is a mob boss among the passengers, and he’s on the run - from more mobsters!

Any romantic notions are soon put aside when the mobster’s reluctant-looking bride-to-be goes missing, and Patricia is unexpectedly volunteered to solve the mystery of her disappearance. There’s a cryptic ransom note where the missing woman should be, and one of her bodyguards is soon found - with a hole in his head!

Regretting her decision to help out, it’s not long before the opposing mobster factions take an interest in Patricia’s involvement. Someone has the missing bride, everyone wants her, and they all think Patricia knows where she is. With the ever-faithful butler, Jermaine, at her side and the perfect blonde, Barbie, to distract the men, Patricia will still have to go all out to unravel the riddle before anyone else turns up dead.

Where is the kidnapped bride? Find out for yourself as you take another hilarious, action-filled voyage with Patricia Fisher.

Fun story not helped by narration

This is a fun cozy mystery. The author’s humor seems a bit old fashioned—not at all a bad thing—in that I can imagine reading this book a few decades ago.

The narrator’s voice and accents are okay, but the story would benefit greatly from a more skilled narrator with a better sense of timing, wit, and humor. It seems like she’s reading the words without any sense of what she’s reading, as if it’s a dictionary. As the story went on, it actually crossed my mind that maybe there’s a computer program doing the narration and that this is cheaper than an actual actor! She never speeds up or slows down her pace.

Also, some characters are comical and require a skilled narrator to breathe life and fun into them. I sometimes found myself reflecting, “Oh, that was actually a funny scene.” I realized this based on the words alone, whereas the narrator should have contributed to the humor.

Patricia Fisher foils the mob

The Kidnapped Bride is part of the Patricia Fisher Mystery series. Steve Higgs has written a wonderful story and series. Katherine Anderson is the narrator and her performance is outstanding. A mob boss’s fiancé is kidnapped on the cruise ship and what follows (after several other mob bosses helicopter on board) mystery and a zany search for the bride happens. Although each book in the series is a stand alone, they flow beautifully from book 1 to book 10. I really enjoyed listening to the audio book.

kidnapped on a cruise

A fun, cozy mystery. This is the first read / listen of Higgs for me and I have to say I thought this a super cute. I loved the characters and storyline - loved the combination of gangsters and fell in love with Barbie (the pool scene had me literally laughing out loud), Lady Mary - who was so great, cool under pressure(or drunk) and feisty, and of course her butler who is everything anyone would ever want or need. Good flow tot he storyline and you won't see the ending coming...

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Humorous Clever Cozy

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.

This is the second book in the Patricia Fisher Mystery series. It is a standalone book with no cliffhanger ending. I have not read the first book in this series and had no trouble following the characters or the plot.

Absolutely entertaining, well written, and a lot of fun! There are times where you will laugh out loud at either the antics of the characters or a very smart humorous quip. The characters are well developed and interesting. Patricia is smart, funny and a strong woman. Her cohorts do not blend into the background - each one has a distinctive personality. I absolutely adored Lady Mary and her ever-changing rules for drinking cocktails. And the butler's quirky past... The mystery is a good one with some really fun twists. Plus, there is a lot of action-packed scenes - so never a dull moment.

The narrator, Katherine Anderson, was pitch perfect. She did distinctive voices for all of the characters. She narrated at a good pace and landed the punchlines perfectly.

Fun series, great characters

This is my third book in this series (read books 3, then 1 before this) and it is a new favourite for me. The setting is unique and fun, and the characters are super likeable.

Narrator is good although I'm not entirely sure what accent she is going for with Barbie and even sometimes Germaine (spelling? I am listening only so don't know how the author is spelling it). The accents are not 100% even throughout each book but they are close enough to not take away from the fun of the books.

I would call this a sort of early episodes of "Murder She Wrote" lite. Good friends, singular location, new parts of the ship each book so you're getting familiarity with newness.

I received book 3 free from the author and immediately upon finishing it went and bought books 1,2, and 4!

a wonderful mystery

I enjoyed this story book. The narrator did a great job with the story. She brought the story to life for me. Patricia is on a cruise ship with new friends when a young woman goes missing. The captain asked her to help solve the mystery of the missing woman. This mystery has adventures and suspense and at times it was also funny. It was fun to guess who might have the young woman or where she might be at throughout the story.

I received a complimentary copy to listen to from the author. This is my honest unbiased opinion.

narrator is perfect for Patty

This is the second book in the series....but still a stand a lone....so we're still getting to really know the main characters. There is of course a mystery and Patty does makes mistakes in trying to solve it.....with some pretty funny scenes. It's a good story , , with many different colorful characters, , ..and Patty is growing more confident ...she's not perfect in size or shape or age which is really nice to see....but she is someone you feel you can trust and very likable. I've enjoyed these stories....mostly out of order, but no matter....They've all been fun and entertaining and very enjoyable. Highly recommend it.
