AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER!

“This Golden Girls meets James Bond thriller is a journey you want to be part of.”—Buzzfeed

Older women often feel invisible, but sometimes that’s their secret weapon.

They’ve spent their lives as the deadliest assassins in a clandestine international organization, but now that they're 60 years old, four women friends can’t just retire—it’s kill or be killed in this action-packed thriller by New York Times best-selling and Edgar Award-nominated author Deanna Raybourn.

Billie, Mary Alice, Helen, and Natalie have worked for the Museum, an elite network of assassins, for 40 years. Now their talents are considered old-school and no one appreciates what they have to offer in an age that relies more on technology than people skills.

When the foursome is sent on an all-expenses paid vacation to mark their retirement, they are targeted by one of their own. Only the Board, the top-level members of the Museum, can order the termination of field agents, and the women realize they’ve been marked for death.

Now to get out alive they have to turn against their own organization, relying on experience and each other to get the job done, knowing that working together is the secret to their survival. They’re about to teach the Board what it really means to be a woman—and a killer—of a certain age.

Reseñas de la Crítica

“[An] unpredictable and propulsive romp of a thriller…an inventive and distinctly feminist escapade.”—Oprah Daily

“A singular suspense story thanks to its deftly fluctuating tone, which is by turns comical, violent and unexpectedly affecting…it’s impossible not to root for these dangerous dames and their refusal to let themselves be put on the ash heap—a phrase that, in this thriller, should be taken literally.”—The Washington Post

“A sharp and witty thriller.”—PopSugar

I do not read or listen to a lot of books of this genre, but I thoroughly enjoyed this. Great narration, fun story, fast paced. I can see this working well in a movie with the likes of Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Anniston, Lucy Liu, etc. I use audio books as a motivator to go for walks and listening to this book helped me get lots of steps in a short period of time! Great literature? Nope, but entertaining and fun.

Surprisingly Great Read!

I loved this book. I never start a book in the middle of listening to something else, but I had to begin this right away and I’m glad I did. I greatly enjoyed the characters, the storyline was well done, and it was absolutely fascinating to listen to all the assassin tricks these women had up their sleeves. There was only one drawback that, unfortunately, was found throughout the entirety of the text.

This book simultaneously provided situations where our four lovely assassins proved to be clever, quick, and extremely fit. This could have been such an empowering book for older women, all you have to do is look past the frequent negative references about their age. These women are 60, but they are spoken about as if they are 90. Unfortunately I think this book reiterates Western society’s tired ideas of aging.

Of course the women are older than they were when they started their careers 40 years prior to the telling of the main story. It makes sense to have references to their mission being more difficult than it was in their youth, but these women are far from elderly and prove themselves more than capable. I don’t buy that a 60 year old woman that has spent four decades as an assassin, is terribly intelligent and cultured, and both walks 10 miles and does 2 hours of yoga each day is completely ignored walking down a street. She would certainly be confident, sexy, and alluring. 60 is not elderly! I’m not even sure I would consider it to be old as people of this age are often full of vitality, working full time, going on trips, and living a very full life. My grandmother (72) still works full time and single-handedly takes care of her little farm, while still finding the time to fly to the coast every other month to see her beau.

I truly wish this would have been written through the lens of aging positively. It’s my only reservation about an otherwise wonderfully written book.

For reference, I am a 29 year old woman.

Truly loved it, but it’s a bit ageist

The idea of a female assassins ladies group was a surprise and I loved the way the story developed around it. Although I couldn’t put it down, I objected to 50-60 year old women being constantly referred to as old, by themselves and in talking with each other. Today, many 50-60 year olds are in prime form! I think mid-life would’ve been more accurate. When you head for a decade or two ahead, the body does get in the way. But this concept was off-kilter for me.

Witty and wicked!

I have recommended this book over and over to friends. This is definitely one of my all-time favorites. I rarely listen to/read books twice, but this one I definitely have. I wanted it to have a sequel.😂😂 I am so disappointed that it does not‼️

I laughed, and I cried

4 really witty, clever characters and their job duties will keep you interested. There were some slow spots, I thought. However I found myself wanting to know what’s next, to continue listening. Overall an enjoyable experience.

Slow and steady story

reminds me of the movie "RED" but from a woman's point of view and how they are always counting them out when they should have both eyes on them.
Great story

There is no such idea as too old

Women of a certain age are tired of men’s BS. This book captures that fact in an unconventional way. Love the plot twists and all of the strong female characters.

It’s a killer!
