Irene is a professional spy for the mysterious Library, whose staff are sent to different realities to harvest dangerous and mystical fiction.

Irene has been posted to an alternative steampunk London along with her enigmatic new assistant, Kai. Their mission: to retrieve a dangerous edition of Grimms' Fairy Tales. But it has already been stolen.

In London's underground, the laws of nature have been bent – supernatural creatures and unpredictable magic stalk the land. The city is home to vampires, werewolves – factions that are all prepared to fight to the death for this book.

Irene must face a web of deadly danger, deception and secret societies. Her new assistant is hiding secrets of his own. Yet failure is not an option – the nature of reality itself is at stake . . .

Great story but audio wide range

I loved the story but the way it was recorded was not good. The level varies from a whisper to an ear shattering yell. The audio engineer should have applied compression to reduce the audio level swings.

how important are stories?

it turns out stories are vitally important. (but you knew that). there is a library where all the books ate kept. the librarians go to great lengths to preserve stories from a thousand worlds. come visit the invisible library. this is a marvelous beginning to, what promises, a fantastic series.

Meh

Narrator isn’t great. Story takes random sidetracks that come out of nowhere. It’s just ok.

Brought me back to the world of fantasy

I have been incapable of maintaining focus long enough to get through a book without taking at least one year. After getting this recommendation from a friend, I blew through it in four days love the cheekiness. I love the fascinating intersection between magic, fantasy, technology, history, and future.

I loved this book

This is what world building looks like. What a great story about people who love books and what they will do to protect them.

Wonderful Story, Expertly Narrated

The story was unique and wonderfully written; loved the descriptive language. It’s a stand out in a genre usually packed with poorly devised plots & terrible writing. Really loved the humor and cleverness of the main character… and her inner dialog. The narrator was superb, professional and delightful to listen to. Getting the 2nd audiobook posthaste. I see a binge listen in my near future!
