Publisher's Summary

Bookshop owner Penelope Thornton-McClure and her gumshoe ghost team up to solve the stunning mystery at the heart of a so-called "madwoman's" self-portrait in this all-new installment from New York Times best-selling author Cleo Coyle.

While gathering a collection of vintage book cover paintings for a special event in her quaint Rhode Island bookshop, Penelope discovers a spooky portrait of a beautiful woman, one who supposedly went mad, according to town gossip. Seymour, the local mailman, falls in love with the haunting image and buys the picture, refusing to part with it, even as fatal accidents befall those around it. Is the canvas cursed? Or is something more sinister at work?

For answers, Pen turns to an otherworldly source: Jack Shepard, PI. Back in the 1940s, Jack cracked a case of a killer cover artist, and (to Pen's relief) his spirit is willing to help her solve this mystery, even if he and his license did expire decades ago.

It was ok.

I think I really just miss Caroline Shaffer & Traber Burns. It was not my favorite of the series but it wasn’t bad either. If there is another one to follow maybe we can get the original narrators.

Please go back to the prior narrators!!

The story is good but after becoming accustomed to the narration of shaffer/burns listening to Odom was like listening to nails on a chalkboard. Traci Odom makes Penelope sound like she's in her late 50's, her aunt sounds like she's a 90 year old chain smoker and Jack is a total mismatch.

Another excellent book!

Cleo Coyle once again did a great job with this book/series. I was totally engaged from beginning to end!!The only suggestion I have is that it would be helpful to use the same narrator with all books in the same Series.
If you’re three books into the next (of five ) book series, it helps the (audiobook) customer to recognize characters based on familiar dialect.

VERY DISSAPOINTING

The story was overall not bad and was very compatible with the other Haunted Bookshop mysteries but the performance and the narration were terrible. There was not enough differences in the character voices for you to be able to keep up with who was speaking. Big mistake to change narrators and only have one instead of two. Had I realized the narrator was different I probably would not have purchased this book.

What in the world happened to the narrator

I MISS THE OLD NARRATORS!!! This was read in a stilted, unrealistic way. Please go back to the old narrator

narrator

I liked the story but I did not like the same person narrating both parts. The best part of this series was the 2 different Narrators.

Miss the original narrators

Loved the book! The narrator was ok but I miss the original narrators. I found myself having to distinguish who was speaking. I miss Jack's voice no one can replace Mr. Burns narration of his character. When I think of Jack I always go back to Trabor Burns. The story in itself was a good book. Cleo coyle did it again with another great story. I hope more come out I enjoy listening to her books over and over again.

not happy with this book.

I was disappointed in the reading. All the other books that I had listened to in this series had a man leading the part of the detective. It was much more satisfying to listen to.
