Publisher's Summary

If you're checking out this audiobook, there is a good chance you - or someone you care about - have experienced some of the more damaging consequences of genuine narcissism. Maybe you didn't realize you were dealing with a narcissist at first, but the pain and damage caused by this selfish, arrogant, condescending, and domineering person might have driven you to search for answers about what was going on, and how to deal with them. As you searched online or in books, you collected the conventional wisdom available, but feel there is still more to it.

While the Bible does not use the exact term "narcissism" - a word from Greek mythology - it most certainly speaks to the subject. In fact, if you look carefully, you might be surprised at just how much and how directly Scripture speaks about narcissism and narcissistic people.

The First Will Be Last: A Biblical Perspective on Narcissism is just what the title says - an A-Z look at the Biblical perspective on these toxic people; including who they are, how they got that way, and how to deal with them. From key words to Biblical case studies, it will unlock a new perspective and provide a framework in your search for truth.

Brings clarity for Christians struggling with the topic.

It’s a great resource for orthodox Christians of all denominations. Bridges the gap between what the author calls ‘pop-psychology’ and the Christian world view and ethic. Author cites many ‘case studies’ (examples of personalities in the Bible that could properly be considered narcissistic) that allow the reader to see that narcissism is not a new phenomenon. Author philosophizes just enough about the issue (stays out of the theological weeds) and is able to offer up practical skills and, more importantly in my opinion, a mindset for those dealing with narcissistic people in their lives.

Incredible book!

This book comes from a Christian worldview of narcissism. It will definitely help (the Christ follower) with dealing with the narcissist(s) in their life. The author backs every insight, example, and instruction with the Word of God.

Unique Approach. Sound Advice.

I have been obsessed with the topic of narcissism since I came to identify it as the source of the toxic environment I grew up in. But in all my study I've never come across a more exhaustive study and nothing that extensively explores the subject from a Biblical perspective. The authors delve into the subject from every angle - identifying characteristics, root causes, co-dependant outcomes, practical solutions and uniquely, the Christian's responsibility, all from a Biblical perspective. He is direct, without being harsh and compassionate without being soft. True wisdom from the Holy Spirit! As a Christian we tend to either silently suffer, earnestly praying for change or, on the other end of the spectrum, "demonize" anything we see contrary to God and walk away from it. Unfortunately, neither of these approaches effectively addresses the problem. Secular leaders in this subject offer practical advice but everyone admits that there is little clinical data on the subject since few narcissists will ever go to counseling. ("Who me? No, you're the one that needs counseling!"). The authors went to the One resource that has been tried and true for centuries to seek answers. In Ecclesiastes Chapter 3, Solomon said there is nothing new under the sun. We gave it new name but the condition is as old as time and this book points out that God has a lot to say about it! I would highly recommend it for every one struggling with toxic relationships especially those of Christian faith but also for anyone looking for another perspective on the subject. The recommendations are sound for all regardless of the Biblical approach used to arrive at them.

Very insightful!

I enjoyed this audiobook very much. I found it to be very insightful and easy to listen to. In today’s world with all the “me” attitudes of people I found this audiobook to give many tips on dealing with people in today’s society. I will read it several more times.

Fantastic read

This book is fantastic. It has filled lots of gaps for me. If I could leave a note for the author it would read. Excellent work except you encourage people to avoid a narc except someone who is married to one... did you forget the devil is her to kill and destroy? And no one is more vulnerable to the narc then the partner. You need to revisit that discrepancy as it could cost lives. Apart from that I really loved your book.
