Publisher's summary

London, 1914. Lily's visions could stop a killer...if she'll trust a reclusive aristocrat with her darkest secret.

A monster stalks the gaslit streets of Edwardian London, draining the blood of the city's mediums. Lily Albright knows who's next.

Lily is plagued by visions of the future she can never change. When a mysterious fiend threatens someone she loves, she's determined this time will be different.

But she can't do it alone. To save a life, Lily must reveal her darkest secrets to someone she has little reason to trust—the reclusive Lord Strangford, a man haunted by his own unusual powers.

From the glittering galleries of Bond Street to the rookeries of Southwark, Lily and Strangford plunge into a dark conspiracy that lies at the heart of England's rising eugenics movement.

To thwart it, Lily must face a past rife with betrayal—and embrace the power she has spent her entire life trying to escape.

First in a gripping historical fantasy series narrated by 20-year acting veteran Alex Picard.

Loved it

Wasn't sure what I was expecting, but absolutely loved this story. The narration was perfect. Only issue I had was the twice mentioned "murder of ravens" even though a murder is a group of crows, but other than that it's a fantastic book.

What a great beginning!

I am impressed and delighted with the excellence of this new series. The story is well researched and serves as a chilling prelude to the horrifying realization of eugenic in the Third Reich as well as racial and genocidal tragedies world wide, a terrible legacy we deal with today.

The start of something full of Charisma

A great fantasy series akin to Brian McClellan, Django Wexler, and Brandon Sanderson. Jacqueline Benson's series is stunning and narrator Alex Picard is the perfect voice to shape the story in this format.

Ready for the next installment!

I really enjoy historical fiction and fantasy so this seemed an obvious choice. A London murder mystery NOT set in the era of Jack the Ripper is also appreciated. The characters are as intriguing as the setting and the story is fast paced and gripping. The names bothered me- it’s a petty complaint but they felt cliche. I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook. Alex Picard has a beautifully soothing voice that captures the feeling of the world and draws you in to it’s mystery. Will definitely be purchasing the next book for a future road trip.
