Amazing story, extraordinary performance

The Raven Scholar is one of the best new books I've read in years. It has everything: politics, conspiracy, magic, tragedy, and a giant nerd of a main character, together with clever, polished, compelling writing. It is intense and entertaining, and even as an audiobook, this is not a book to have in the background during your morning drive; it is a book that demands focus. It was an enormous disappointment to discover that this was the first book in a series...and that the book had just come out. I'm going to be obsessively checking the progress of the next element of the series.

And speaking of it being an audiobook...wow. The voice acting on this piece is amazing. On top of generally excellent narration, Daphne Kouma also voices to some very unusual characters, and does it with aplomb.

I cannot recommend this book, and this audiobook, strongly enough. 6/5 stars.

Great story, nicely unpredictable. Many unexpected twists and turns. I also love this reader's voice, I think I would enjoy anything she reads.

The raven scholar is a wide immersive tale that leaves you with a sense of wonder like an epic poem. Bravo, both to the author and to the very talented narrator who brought these characters to life.

Couldn’t stop listening! I wish I didn’t have to wait for the second book. The voice actor is absolutely phenomenal.

Creative, surprising, captivating.

This is a great start to a series. I usually like to reserve judgment about a series until it's concluded, because I think it's important that there's and intelligent overarching plot.

This book had excellent pacing, interesting characters, and it was quite unpredictable. I'll definitely be coming back for the sequel.

Absolutely Fantastic!

This is an epic, unexpected adventure! Fantastic journey, beautiful world building, characters you want to know and hate. The background information at the beginning was a little slow, but important. It does not end on a cliff but there is clearly more to come. You will think you know how it will end. You will be wrong.

I couldn’t get enough of it

I love reading, but it’s been a while since a book made me truly excited. Excited enough to want to keep going even when it’s 2am and I’m a mom with a full time job to get to.😂
Not only is it written beautifully, but the reader did a magnificent job. I love all the characters and the depth each ones has without it getting boring or overdone.

I cannot wait to get my hands on the second book!
