Resumen del Editor

For over 30 years, Dominion of Blades has been the hottest online role-playing game in the world. Any gamer with an immersion rig can enter the world of sword and sorcery, of goblins and dragons, and they can hack and slash their way to glory. But the game is too real for some, and after an epidemic of real-life fatalities, public use of the immersion technology has been banned, causing the game to be shut down.

Jonah wakes to find himself in-game, level one, with no memory of how he arrived and no way to eject. With only two companions, trapped in a world that once hosted millions, Jonah must battle his way across a treacherous landscape, fighting virtual monsters, all too real pain, and a very human enemy in a desperate bid to survive.

A great listen!

What did you love best about Dominion of Blades?

The characters! Andrea Parsneau brought a very diverse group of characters to life. You could feel their joys, their sadness, and every emotion through her narration.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dominion of Blades?

Everytime Popper opens his mouth.

Have you listened to any of Andrea Parsneau’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is my first time listening to this narrator, and I can promise there will be many more.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I wish I could have!

Any additional comments?

This is a very good book narrated by a great narrator! I highly recommend it.

Superb

Excellent story, i find this story in particular to be very dark and potentially disturbing in parts if you aren't prepared for torture and undead swarms wanting to torture the MC for thousands of years! Ha. Superbly well done... I truly hope to see more beyond the hobgoblin riot soon.

LItRPG is a new Genre for me and its fascinating

What other book might you compare Dominion of Blades to and why?

Since its my first LitRPG, i can't compare anything to it. Sci/Fi Fantasy maybe.

Any additional comments?

Dominion of Blades, by Matt Dinniman, is my first LitRPG novel. I confess, it was jarring for me at first as I had no idea what a LitRPG novel was. But by the third chapter, I figured it out. And I thought it was such a cool idea. You are basically reading a book from the POV of a character in a role playing game. In this case the game called Dominion of Blades. Reminded me a wee bit of The Matrix, albeit totally different. So the game was shut down due to people actually dying in real life. But poor Jonah, he wakes and finds himself back in it. And no way to log out. His companions suggest they are in prison. And it’s a punishment. That’s of no matter however, the game continues, and they must soldier on through the different levels. I don’t know if LitRPG is my genre, but I really liked this one. Dinniman’s characters are fun, and if you’ve ever played an RPG, you will recognize a lot of stuff. (Level up, level up, level up). All in all, I quite enjoyed this and could easily recommend it to anyone that likes a good story and if you are already a LitRPG fan, I expect this one is a must read.

What an interesting premise to begin with!!

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This book started in such an unusual way and then continues in that way all along. What a way to tell a story. To be writing a book within a book is such an intriguing way to show variety in a book series!! The characters are so real and honest that you find yourself lost in their back stories wishing you were right there beside them. Definitely a book that you should get for your audiobook library!!

it's a cool book

one of my problems with the book is the main character seems to not really want to learn the game sometimes for some reason they love being in the game didn't refuses to cope being in the game it's too violent it's too bloody I know this sounds like I hate the book no I actually really do like the book just that main character sometimes bitch slap the other two characters fantastic he'll heat even pisses off his own teammate with his ignorance not asking questions like say summon an ice storm or summon piranhas if I was in the game I would learn ask questions

A story within a story done very well

Having read Matt's other series and wanting more I grabbed both of the Dominion of Blade books as soon as I found them. I have just finished this one and will be starting the next one tomorrow.

I don't want to give a ton away in this review but I really think Matt did an outstanding job. The story is complicated, though it took me a while to understand how complex. The whole plot line grows deeper as you get further along.

The MC and his friends are great characters, I think I was slightly irritated that the MC wasn't more a gamer or a tech person but honestly I think after a bit I actually liked him questioning and changing things. I don't think I would have done much better or made any better choices. He does remind me a little bit of Carl for Matt's other series. Clearly a good moral compass in both MCs is important to Matt, and to me thinking about it.

Matt does a good job of drawing you in and leaving you on the edge of your seat. Andrea Parsneau does a good job of narration, I wasn't 100% I liked her as the narrator but about a 1/3rd of the way in it was clear she was the right choice. I would love for their to be more voice talent, for some of the other characters, but that is a rare thing in audio books and she really does a good job covering everyone.

This is not as funny as Dungeon Crawler Carl books but it is certainly as well written, the characters are just as good or bad, and the moral compass of the story is pretty clear.

Fun adventure

This was a fun adventure. The narration was surprisingly good since I’m not a great fan of Andrea Parsneau. The author always seem to know exactly what I need in a story.

Nails It Again!

After reading the Dungeon Crawler Carl series I really wanted another similar book and this was it. Highly recommend it if you like the Fantasy, sci-fi, role playing, video game genres.
