He went to war to forget her. He returned with a title... and an order to marry.
When Fitzwilliam Darcy disappeared from society after Lydia Bennet’s scandalous elopement, the ton offered many explanations—none of them close to the truth.
For nearly two years, Darcy served the Crown in secret during the war against Napoleon—his wit and will tested in shadowed courts and enemy strongholds. Now returned to England, he carries more than secrets: he bears a new title—Earl of Pemberley—bestowed by the Prince Regent himself.
But elevation comes at a cost. With rank comes duty. And the Crown expects him to take a wife.
A title must have a countess, after all.
Elizabeth Bennet never imagined she’d see Mr Darcy again—let alone be named among his potential brides. But when duty and desire collide, can two hearts divided by pride, pain, and a perilous past find their way back to one another?
Danger still lingers. Love never died.
And the most treacherous battle may be the one for Elizabeth’s heart.
He’s not the man she once knew.
She’s everything he never forgot.
But can love survive lies, loyalty, and the weight of the past?
A Pride and Prejudice variation filled with passion, longing, honour, and second chances.

Great book

The first issue is the many repititions and inconsistencies. There were a few small things characters did or said that didn't make sense. There was one scene that should have been a major one that was indicated would take place but the story moved on without it ever happening. IF there was an editor involved, they did not do their job.
The second is the virtual voice. I actually didn't mean to click on this title. I initially put it on my wish list based on the description. When I realized it used a virtual voice I intended to skip it. Once I paid for it I figured I would give it a chance. I'm not making this mistake again. It wasn't horrible but the story loses something when the narrator isn't skilled with using their voice as part of the storytelling.
The final problem ties into the first. I may be way off base but there are elements about how this was written that make me think too much AI was involved. There were many places where the exact same adjective or different variations of the same metaphor were used. These were instances where I would think an author would know to change it up a bit. This problem could be attributed to bad editing. But my Spidey Senses are tingling and telling me this author was using AI to help write this book. Don't get me wrong; I'm not downing them for that. But, there is a limit. I think this book may have crossed over into "a bot that can't do a good story justice" territory.
