Publisher's summary
The Dark Yorkshire Series are fast-paced crime fiction stories featuring DI Nathaniel Caslin. Books four to six in this best-selling series are brought together for the first time in a great value collection.
Blood Money
A businessman found hanged. A tortured and mutilated loaner. High finance has never been so deadly.
DI Nathaniel Caslin is spiraling toward a professional crisis. His biggest case in years has collapsed amid accusations of police intimidation. A rebuilt reputation is now facing ruin.
As the extremes of nationalist hate descend upon York, a refugee is tortured to death, while a straightforward case of a bankrupt’s suicide proves to be anything but simple.
How does an enigmatic campaigner with a secret to keep link these two disparate worlds? Shining a light onto corporate finance draws Caslin to those who prefer to live in the shadows.
Making money, concealing wealth, protecting what you have comes at a price. Your enemies and your friends may find that the true cost is underwritten in blood.
Fear the Past
A murder without motive. A downtown bombing. The sins of the past revisited.
DI Nathaniel Caslin is heading up a specialist unit - an opportunity to make a real difference. Little does he know, decisions taken decades previously are about to threaten all that he holds dear.
Gangland tensions are on the rise as an uneasy peace is fractured in spectacular fashion. Two warring factions are lining up to unseat the other. Old adversaries rekindle their passion to exact revenge, whilst the next generation seeks to make a name for themselves.
Meanwhile, Caslin is asked to investigate the mysterious murder of a private detective, revealing the vested interests of a multitude of figures. Finding himself walking the line between upholding the law and delivering justice, Caslin sees the past returning to haunt those around him.
A crime perpetrated years previously sends ripples far and wide. Some people have much to gain, whilst others have so much to lose...none more so than Caslin himself.
The Sixth Precept
A killer stalks his prey. The five precepts are laid down. The sixth will be his own.
DI Nathaniel Caslin has earned the freedom to run his case load as he sees fit, bypassing the hierarchical constraints with his specialist unit. Little does he know a deadly adversary is walking the streets of York - one who will push the team to their psychological limits.
Reluctantly agreeing to a joint investigation alongside a detective from the drug squad, Caslin is perplexed by the multiple homicides of a number of addicts. Poisoned by their own supply with no apparent motive, the killings appear gang-related.
The crime scene is filthy and forbidding, with each victim having the index finger removed from their right hand after death. A planned mutilation? A trophy? Strategically placed among the dead is a blooming pink flower, the only beauty within a dark, macabre scene.
When a bank employee vanishes, only to be found dead at the hands of a medieval stoning, Caslin's team are left with a puzzle to unpick. An index finger is missing, and inside the victim's mouth, carefully placed and undamaged, are the petals of a small pink flower.
A serial killer is on a mission. Caslin must reach into the darkness in order to confront the most dangerous and determined killer of the age - one who seeks to build a monument to his efforts.

I Will Re-read This and Enjoy it Again
I listened to this audiobook which contains three books in The Dark Yorkshire series. J. M. Dalgliesh writes complex police procedural/mysteries. I appreciate these books a great deal. I have no doubt I will reread the ones I‘ve already read and garner even more from the books. I recommend this author.

Dalgleish’s best series
His Norfolk books are very engaging, but it’s in Yorkshire that he fully combines local land and customs, rich characters and intricate, convoluted plots. The mighty Greg Patmore delivers voices, accents and regional detail with virtuosity.

“You can’t hide from what you’ve done.”
Brilliant. Intense, gritty and suspenseful from start to finish. I had a really hard time putting this down. The writing is superb and Greg does an amazing job with the narration, perfectly paced and great character voices, he the perfect match for this book.
3 stories in 1 book, all great and get better as they go!
I was really sorry to get to the end and definitely want to hear more from this pairing!

Great books
After listening to books 1-3 I decided to do the same with books 4-6. I certainly wasn't disappointed. The books were well written and thoroughly enjoyable to listen to as Greg Patmore dies a marvellous job as narrator. JM Dalgliesh as usual writes a very interesting captivating set of books.

A good series
I enjoyed this series as it moved along at a good pace without dreary passages of technical police jargon etc although some plot gaps at times but these seemed to enhance it rather than spoil it.
Characters were nicely built and believable.
Greg Patmore does a good job of narrator, I imagine it is difficult to keep the same voice for a character through six books but he does this admirable throughout, all in all a very good experience and story

A good ‘read’
I enjoyed these books. They had good solid story lines and believable characters. The narrator was good, although his women characters were a little ‘samey’ in sound. However, his voice was very ‘listenable’, so pleasurable to listen to.

Don’t buy or be driven mad by narrator!
Fantastic author and book but the narrator is awful. Poking your own eyes out with a stick is preferable. At the end of EVERY sentence, he leaves the last word barely spoken, in the way that might be appropriate for the end of a book or chapter when you’re left in suspense. Try “He had a lovely dinner with his family before going to the loo and washing his han…” What’s mysterious about that. Every single sentence without fail. I’ve tried to return it o read the book instead but cannot find any way to do it. Now there's a surprise. Anyone would think they didn’t want you to 😡😡😡

All together a fantastic series
Loved this series, although I was shattered to find that book 6 was the last in this series. Endearing characters and intelligent psychological thrillers

Value for money
Blood Money
A Russian Oligarch is found hanged. The motive is unclear-murder or suicide.
Caslin has just lost a court case that would have wound up a crime family.
Fear the Past, and The sixth Precept.
Four dead druggies in a drug house, from bad heroin
Templar from the drug squad, teams up with Caslin from the crime squad.
Caslin becomes infatuated by Michelle, whose husband was found hanged in an isolated place.
Michelle has too much baggage, and I thought, ugh!
Alison the coroner was a much better match.

Engrossing
I will definitely read more by this author. The Norfolk series next.
I find that the stories of Russian spies less appealing so I was glad the book ended on a police case.

Northern coppers grit and grimace
I really couldn’t stop listening to these fast paced and somewhat violent set of thrillers. I very much admired DI Nate Catlin’s unfailing determination and staying power. Dalgliesh tells a chillingly unique tale which is perfectly delivered in dulcet northern tones by Greg Patmore. I’m an absolute Fan.

Exciting Storyline
I enjoyed the storyline of the book and the descriptions gave me a real picture in my mind as to the character of the Detective....it felt like there should be another book in the series to follow up in his blooming relationship with Michelle.
