Story
Two hundred years ago, aliens invaded Earth. A violent war followed. The enemy won. Some of us escaped, most of us didn’t. On Proxima they flourished - the invasion forgotten. On Earth we floundered - the horror began. Their world is advanced, peaceful, and secure. Our world is broken, savage, and overrun. A new invasion is coming. A hunger that has swallowed half the universe. They don’t care which planet we live on. They want to end us all. But where there is life, there is hope. And where there is hope, there are heroes. This time, vengeance will be ours.

I Really Tried to Like/Finish this Book, but Can't
- By DAVID E MCINTYRE on 11-15-19
By: Jack Colrain
Publisher's Summary
No-one comes in peace. Every being in the galaxy wants something, and is willing to take it by force.
The Hedalt were no different. They came from the distant reaches of the galaxy to wage war. Their fleet wanted to take Earth for its prize, but we were ready. We were stronger.
For years, we fought them, ship-to-ship, until we scattered their forces and drove them back. Pursuing the Hedalt fleet to their home world, we delivered the decisive blow. We nuked their planet and wiped them out for good.
Or so we thought.
For decades, Earth Fleet sent out Deep Space Recon missions to scour the galaxy and clean up the remnants of the Hedalt Empire. Eventually, we found only ghosts - empty outposts and long-dead colonies. But, close to the edge of known space, I - Captain Taylor Ray - and my crew are about to make a discovery that will change everything.
The war isn’t over. The war has yet to begin.

Surprised me!
This book is an interesting take on the whole humans have a war with aliens premise. Although it clearly sets up a universe for a whole series of novels, it is a full an complete story with an ‘snd I’m going off on an adventure’ style of ending. Satisfying end yo the current story while leaving it open to more. There is a lot of character growth in this book too. It helps us get to know the main protagonist as we see his cathartic evolution first hand. Overall, a shorter novel, but a good one. Looking forward to the next book in the series. I received this audiobook for free in exchange for a review.
