Charlie Sheen was born the third of four children to actor Martin Sheen and his wife, Janet. He grew up on film sets—from his father’s all over the world, to his own in Malibu. There he made ambitious Super 8s, with a roster of friends who went on to become household names themselves, including his brother Emilio, Sean and Chris Penn, and the Lowe brothers.

Sheen broke into movies in the 1980s, playing a hoodlum in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, a young soldier in Platoon, and an ethically compromised trader in Wall Street. But somewhere along the way, despite a successful transition to TV leading man in Spin City and Two and a Half Men, Sheen descended into a vortex of extracurricular activities.

Now sober, Sheen delivers a clear-eyed narrative of his highs and lows with humor, candor, and a vivid, captivating writing style that is uniquely his. The Book of Sheen comes across like a far-fetched, overstuffed novel of Hollywood life—yet it is all true.

So glad I listened

This was a wild ride - vulnerably written, with no excuses but a lot of lessons. It’s easy to think we know a “star” because of the things we read or through their performances, but this shows clearly that you never know what it’s like to walk in the shoes of another. I’ve always been a fan of Charlie Sheen (and his family) and am more so now. He has been through a lot, albeit self induced at times, and I’m so glad he has been inspired to share his story. Hearing him narrate with his humble-cool was the best. It is truly amazing what fame gives one access to and how much it must take to resist all the temptations and choose a different and productive path. Very happy he is on that path!

Good read

Very honest and raw account of his life from times we watched on tv and heard in all the tabloids with his side of what was going on at those times.

Beautiful story telling

Charlie’s own brand of gonzo journalism, sores, and shines. As capable of an actor as Sheen is he may be even a better writer. This had to be a difficult tell because of the heart and humility he pours into his rugged life.
