Felicity discovers the "Atlantis stone" while scuba diving on the southeast coast of Australia in a treacherous area known as "the ship's graveyard". Her diving is part of her research into the fabled "mahogany ship", a wreck sighted on the beach by early White Australians.

She meets Benjamin as a result of her love of diving. He is an indigenous Australian, but past traumas have caused him to disown his aboriginal heritage. Benjamin is now struggling to find his identity in the Western world and has retreated to his workshop where he ekes out a living as a wood-turner. An attempt on his life propels him into Felicity's world of historic mysteries...and a quest that takes them to the ancient city of Cagliari in Sardinia.

An anthropologist dying of cancer and an ex-Special Forces soldier with post-traumatic stress join them in an adventure that centers on a medieval treaty, a lust for gold, and an audacious plot to rewrite world history.

Just fair- not bad at all but personally didn’t find thrilling. I could tell it was the first novel in the series with a lot of character development.

Meh

Plot moves along nicely. A few unexpected twists. Characters are likable/ believable. Narrater took a little getting used to but I am a fan now. On to book 2!

Interesting plot with unexpected twists.

Well done. Engaging, good performance. Aboriginal history/culture was well done. Over all worth the listen. I think the editor of the transcript could have done a bit of a better job, but those issues were few and far between. Somewhat predictable in places, what book isn't. My first reading/listening of Nick Hawkes' works. Will look for more. Mr Cartwright did an excellent job narrating.

I didn't enjoy this at all really. I assumed that an Australian audience would like it more for it's heavy Australian historical connections but the story of the people as disjointed with things seemingly randomly happening. A random side story about an ex-husband that was completely unnecessary. Do not recommend.

not for me
