Publisher's Summary

Imagine yourself in Cape Cod in early fall with the steady swells of the waves falling against the sand and the gentle rhythmic chirp of crickets in the dunes.

Unlike canned nature sounds created in a studio, renowned acoustic ecologist Gordon Hempton gives you the real deal. He travels the world recording remarkable locations that capture the essence of the place itself. His lifelong mission is to preserve nature through sound, and his soundscapes are produced with such care and quality that you feel as if he has truly brought a slice of the world into your home.

Grief is complicated and messy and painful and frustratingly unique to each and every individual who has experienced loss. There is not a one-size-fits-all balm for that which can feel insurmountable, even unsurvivable. But when you're ready, embracing all of the sounds that made your loved one who they were can bring you a little closer to that memory, sometimes so close it can feel like they're still there.

Crickets!

There are crickets chirping throughout this recording which shock me to attention like an alarm

Magnificent Solo Performance

Difficult to appreciate the sea sounds when a cricket 2mm from the mic chirps for the entire two hours. If there are people out there who need to here constant irregular trills to relax - good news!

Crickets

The description for this title mentions crickets, but my overall impression was it was sea sounds. I found the crickets, however, to be far too distracting. Their chirping is rapid, which I felt countermined the calming sound of the waves. I had a feeling (probably not true) that my heartbeat was trying to sync with the rapid sound of the crickets - definitely NOT what I wanted to happen either at bedtime or during meditation.

Could someone kill that bug?!?

Nice to hear the ocean, but I couldn't deal with that bug noise. And it doesn't stop...!

Great except

It would be great beside the constant chirping. That really distracted from the calmness of it.

Not very relaxing for me

Struggled to finish this! Did not feel like it was very relaxing, infact it did the opposite by making my brain become more alert. Perhaps the sleep series is not for me (had this effect with many other audios in this series too) but if you love falling asleep to insect sounds and quiet waves then you should try it.

by the sea, by the sea

seashore sounds... breaking waves and... crickets? minus one star for the crickets. I kept wanting to find them and throw them out of the house.

Too many crickets

Chirping is incessant and not realistic to Atlantic surf. Cannot listen to it. Oh well
Surf alone would have worked for me

Don't care for the constant sound of crickets

I struggled to relax. The sound odd the ocean was relaxing. However I could not maintain my focus on it due to the constant sound of crickets. That annoyed me. I could not tolerate it anymore after about 5 mins.

ruined by the cricket

Fighting insomnia but found myself breathing in rhythm to the hyperactive cricket. Awful. it was louder than the waves and I couldn't filter it out.

Sleep 😴

A.H

I suffer from Insomnia, after a Brain injury. It’s one heck of an imposition on obtaining some decent Sleep 🥹.

It was by pure Chance, I came upon ‘The Atlantic’.

Finally, after downloading it, Hallelujah ! The real Sound of the Ocean, without synthetic noise !

Just the pure Waves crashing and real crickets chirping.

My Heartfelt Gratitude to the
Ecologist.

Good listen

Helps me fall asleep everytime. Unlike alot of reviews I've seen, I actually like the sound of the crickets.
