Publisher's summary

The best-selling dystopian series, plus a previously unpublished bonus chapter, available now in one box set.

"A fierce post-apocalyptic story of war and loss, of nature's vengeance, of survival in the face of overwhelming odds." (Manhattan Book Reviews)

Two years have passed since humankind faced extinction: Two cousins are leaving the protection of their underground bunker after a cataclysmic war and unrelenting disease ravaged the Earth. On the other side of North America, a young survivalist is leaving the seclusion of his cabin deep in the woods, traveling with his aging canine companion, Winston. For individual reasons, these men are traveling east, to where a small number of survivors have established colonies.

But in the deep recesses of Haddonfield Maximum Security Prison, a wickedness emerges to defile what is left of humanity. With society coming to its knees, the opportunity is right for a terrible army to claim the world as their own, and inflict upon it the same pain they received in life.

Fueled by personal desires and the need to survive at all costs, those left alive face the final war. Although the colonists are not yet aware, the strength that resides inside them will soon be tested, and destiny will call for their fates to be forever intertwined.

Nicely wrapped up

Brandon did a good job of finalizing his story. The characters were all well represented and the environments were well defined.

I’d like to think humans would behave differently in similar situations, but he is probably correct. We are inherently evil.

Nice job Brandon

This needs to be a movie

I loved everything about this book, and would love to see it as a movie. It kept my attention from start to finish. I'm even going to check out the song by Devo.

This book is exactly what I think would happen if the earth as we know it ends by a virus. People wanting power, and submission from others. People who can't stand it when others are happy. Then, you have the ones who fight for the freedom, and happiness they look for.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a good war story.

Coul-du No-tu Liste-nu to dictio-nu.

I gave it two hours. The story is building nicely. HOWEVER, after listening to more than 500 audible books in my library, this is the first I'm returning because the narration was so distracting that I could not enjoy the story.

James Romick is obviously a professional reader, having dozens of books to his credit. I just can't stop noticing his uncanny diction that "steps on" the last consonant of many words in most sentences. "He'd watch the card game" has five syllables for most of us. It has 8 or 9 syllables if it was narrated by Romick because the "d's" "ch's" and "rd's" are separately pronounced from the word. Watched is two syllables, not one.

Sorry for this writer. The book might be great, but the narrator ruined it for me.

The best dystopian series out there!

This is one of the more believable post-apocalyptic storylines. It begins two years after society collapses, and what starts as a survival story, gets way more in depth. The characters are great, and the bad guys are pure evil. Anyone who likes great storytelling will enjoy this series, even if they don't usually like dystopian fare.

Just in the first chapter

I’m not sure how long I can take the robot narrator… very hard to get over the computer automated voice…

Good storyline, solid charactors

I had bounced back and forth on listening to this one. Dove into it and really enjoyed the first book. in part of the second book, the narrator portrays the Priest. that single character alone nearly ruined the book for me. it was like nails on a chalkboard. HOWEVER, I must point out, the narrator was phenomenal throughout the rest of the series. story line was well put to gather. plenty of character building as you go.
My first Zenner book/set; will not be my last.

Narrator

I just started this series and I will probably finish it but the extreme pronunciation of the narrator is annoying. I might choose not to buy titles that he narrates in the future.

Great story, narrator sounds like an old Baptist preacher

And-uh Simon-uh said-uh…. The narrator has a great voice, but he tends to add “uh” to the end of some words for some reason. This is a great story though and I really enjoyed it and learned to ignore the “uh’s”
