Publisher's Summary

It’s wintertime in New York, and for the first time since Irish immigrant Molly Murphy started her early-twentieth-century detective agency, she is completely snowed in with work. While she’s proving to be quite the entrepreneur and is very much in demand by some of Broadway’s brightest stars and Fifth Avenue’s richest families, she has to grudgingly admit that if she’s going to work more than one case at a time, then she’s going to need some help. Molly’s beau, the recently and wrongly suspended police captain Daniel Sullivan, would make an ideal associate, but before they can agree on the terms of his employment, they stumble upon a young woman lying unconscious in the middle of a snow-covered Central Park. When the woman wakes up she is disorientated and has and lost her ability to speak, the authorities are about to pack her off to an insane asylum when Molly can’t help but step in and take on yet another case.

Lively and colorful, full of absorbing historical detail and delightful characters, Tell Me, Pretty Maiden is another gem in Rhys Bowen’s multiple award--winning series.

Another Fun Adventure

At this point (Book 7) if you like the series you’ll keep going, and if you don’t like the series you would not have gotten this far.

I love the series and can’t wait to keep going; Molly is one of my favourite characters.

The only reason I can’t go all the way and give the book (series) 5 stars is because the lucky coincidences are a little too lucky, and the constant pondering and mental rehashing is sometimes irritating – but that’s it; the series is otherwise terrific!

Can’t wait to see what she gets up to in Book 8! I’m diving in right away!

Irritating

I have loved this series so far but this book had me screaming. While I am a very independent woman this book has Molly being right down selfish and childish. While Daniel dad dying she throws tantrum because he goes sees his parents and not to stay with her. Molly is starting to act like child more than independent woman and thinking more of herself than others. It’s getting irritating I really like and don’t want to stop listening to series.

RIDICULOUS AND IRRITATING!!!!!

I agree with another reader that said Molly was infuriating in this book and the story itself was awful. Is she supposed to be 12 years old in this one? She treats Daniel terribly. Sure, he wasn’t the best in the beginning but they can be together now and all she does is go back and forth on whether or not she wants to be with him. She acts like an immature brat. I’m starting to think that Daniel needs to dump her. Grow up Molly! And can we get rid of the ghost stories?

Light and Entertaining

What made the experience of listening to Tell Me, Pretty Maiden the most enjoyable?

I love how Molly is fearless and how fate always steps in.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Tell Me, Pretty Maiden?

The interactions with her "girl" Jessica and the horrors of the Insane Asylum.

What does Nicola Barber bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She makes me believe whether a man's or woman's voice. Great accents.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

How they used the people in the Insane Asylum experimentally by injecting with typhoid. How they treated them like they were criminals instead of "confused".

Any additional comments?

Molly Murphy mysteries are light hearted and fun and great for those times when you want to escape from deep thoughts and just play a bit. I have enjoyed all of Rhys Bowen's books even though I am normally a SCI FI reader/listener.

Fabulous

Another great addition to this series. I am awed by this author’s imagination.

Molly has several cases going on at the same time and Daniel helps her a little. A mysterious girl is found in the snow who does not speak and her saga intertwined with a couple of other cases. Yes I know really convenient but this is fiction and I love it!

On to the next!

What can one say?

Great story. Love the characters. I also really enjoy her descriptions of New York back in the early 1900s

Another book filled with charming characters!!!

It is 1902 wintertime in New York City, and Molly finds herself with four cases at once. She needs help and hires Captain Daniel Sullivan as an assistant. When Daniel tries to take charge, Molly fears this is not a good decision. Like Molly, I am torn about this potential partnership. She is too feisty and independent to work and marry a man that expects her to stay home and be taken care of. But on the other hand, I feel she often puts herself in a highly risky situation, and she needs Daniel to remind her there are boundaries you must follow in the profession. I don't know if I want them together.
Looking forward to the next book!!!

Quite infuriating

I enjoy some parts of this series but find other parts infuriating! Sometimes the main character seems way too naïve and I wish she was a little more wise. Her love interest is not a very likeable character and I'm not too keen on how the narrator reads male voices

This is a great story with mysteries flying from all directions. Read brilliantly again by Nicola Barber.
