Bruce Shelley's classic history of the church brings the story of global Christianity into the 21st century. Like a skilled screenwriter, Shelley begins each chapter with three elements: characters, setting, plot. Taking you from the early centuries of the church up through the modern era he tells a story of actual people, in a particular situation, taking action or being acted upon, provides a window into the circumstances and historical context, and from there develops the story of a major period or theme of Christian history.

Evangelical Theology: Audio Lectures, a companion to the textbook Evangelical Theology, presents systematic theology from the unique perspective of a biblical scholar. Author and scholar Michael Bird contends that the center, unity, and boundary of the evangelical faith is the evangel, or gospel, as opposed to doctrines like justification by faith or inerrancy.

Story
Many people react negatively to the word theology, believing that it involves dry, fruitless arguments about minute points of doctrine. Yet as Dr. R.C. Sproul argues, everyone is a theologian. Any time we think about a teaching of the Bible and strive to understand it, we are engaging in theology. Therefore, it is important that we put the Bible's varied teachings together in a systematic fashion, using proper, time-tested methods of interpretation so as to arrive at a theology that is founded on truth.

From Genesis to Revelation, the providence of God directs the entire course of redemptive history. Providence is “God’s purposeful sovereignty”. Its extent reaches down to the flight of electrons, up to the movements of galaxies, and into the heart of man. Its nature is wise and just and good. And its goal is the Christ-exalting glorification of God through the gladness of a redeemed people in a new world.

Publisher's Summary
This new edition of Systematic Theology by Wayne Grudem may be the most important resource you can own for helping you understand Scripture and grow as a Christian.
The most widely used resource of the last 25 years in its area, Systematic Theology by Wayne Grudem has been thoroughly revised and expanded (all 57 chapters) for the first time while retaining the features that have made it the standard in its field: Clear explanations, an emphasis on each doctrine's scriptural basis, and practical applications to daily life.
This audiobook (Part I) includes the introduction, "The Doctrine of the Word of God" (seven chapters), "The Doctrine of God" (12 chapters), "The Doctrine of Man in the Image of God" (five chapters), and "The Doctrines of Christ and the Holy Spirit" (five chapters). Topics treated include Scripture, the attributes of God, providence, the Trinity, creation, miracles, prayer, sin, atonement, Christ's resurrection, the work of the Holy Spirit, and much more.
Praise for the second edition:
"After a quarter century of remarkable usefulness globally...it remains remarkable. I thank God for this precious gift to Christ's people worldwide." (John Piper)
"Stands out for its clarity and accessibility." (Thomas R. Schreiner)
With new content and revisions that took several years, this new edition now includes the following distinctive features, making it even better:
- Updated, fuller analysis of several recent controversies within evangelicalism, including the eternal relationship between the Father and the Son in the Trinity, the question of God's atemporal eternity, the role of women in the church, "seeker-sensitive" churches, miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit, and contemporary worship music
- New, thoughtful critiques of open theism, the "new perspective on Paul", Molinism (or "middle knowledge"), "Free Grace" theology, and the preterist view of Christ's second coming
- Completely revised, stronger chapter on the clarity of Scripture
- Completely revised, stronger chapter on creation and evolution, including a longer critique of theistic evolution and an extensive discussion on the age of the earth
- New discussion of how biblical inerrancy applies to some specific "problem verses" in the Gospels
- Additional material respectfully explaining evangelical Protestant differences with Roman Catholicism (with extensive interaction with the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church), Protestant liberalism, and Mormonism
- Completely updated bibliographies
- All Scripture quotations updated from RSV to ESV
- An explanation of why monogenes in John 3:16 and elsewhere should be translated as "only begotten" rather than merely "only" (this is a change from the first edition)
- New discussion on the impassibility of God
- An extensive discussion on the eternal submission of the Son to the Father, taking into account controversies in recent years
- A discussion of recent criticisms of the penal substitutionary view of the atonement
- Numerous other updates and corrections that have be prompted by letters and emails from people around the world and by interaction with the students Wayne has taught over the last 26 years both at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and at Phoenix Seminary
Part of the brilliance of Systematic Theology over the years has been its simplicity and ease of use. Each chapter follows the same structure. First, there is discussion of the doctrine being considered, such as justification or the Trinity or the deity of Christ. An explanation of that doctrine's biblical support and possible objections follow. Personal application and key terms to know for personal growth are then provided in the accompanying PDF. The accompanying PDF also includes a Scripture memory passage, references to other literature on the topic, and suggested hymns.
If you are someone who thinks theology is hard to understand or boring, then this new edition of Systematic Theology will likely change your mind.
PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

Good read
This was in depth and thought provoking and I’ll probably go through it a few more times. I enjoyed the systematic way in which the subjects are broken down and I agreed with most of the authors deductions. I have some non fundamental disagreements about creation and Gen. 6 but the authors suggestions on those matters did inspire some thought.
I would refer this to other serious students of The Bible. I say serious because it is quite long and thorough.

Brilliant narration makes text very accessible
I normally stick with the audio lectures and was somewhat apprehensive about getting this as an audiobook.
BUT:
1. Really, really great narration - clear and precise, great audio quality and easy to follow. Pace is just right. Could not be more impressed with the narrator, thank you Tom Parks!
2. The format of the book lends itself to the medium more than some others. Yes there are some lists of references but they give me time to catch up!
3. Clear and orderly chapter listing improves accessibility.
4. The 70h audiobook seems more manageable than the 1500 page ebook!
5. The pdfs that accompany both parts add value, and the audiobook purchase qualifies for the free study guide that Zondervan are giving away until the end of December 2020 (search Zondervan Academic Systematic Theology)
Hope this helps!

Brilliant.
Grudem’s Systematic Theology is a goldmine. He structures his work neatly and writes clearly, which makes this work aptly fitted for the audio format. While there are some doctrines in which he trails off from classical reformed theology and areas that would profit from more historical theology, I still believe this work can still profit everyone. After this first part I have only felt myself finding Scripture more sweet, Jesus more beautiful, the Father more glorious, and the Spirit more wonderful. Any work that grants me that I see as accomplishing its goal.
