Publisher's summary

The Westminster Confession of Faith is one of the most precise and comprehensive statements of biblical Christianity, and it is treasured by believers around the world. Dr. R. C. Sproul has called it one of the most important confessions of faith ever penned, and it has helped generations of Christians understand and defend what they believe.

In Truths We Confess, Dr. Sproul introduces listeners to this remarkable confession, explaining its insights and applying them to modern life. In his signature easy-to-understand style and with his conviction that everyone’s a theologian, he provides valuable commentary that will serve churches and individual Christians as they strive to better understand the eternal truths of Scripture. As he walks through the confession line by line, Dr. Sproul shows how the doctrines of the Bible - from creation to covenant, sin to salvation - fit together to the glory of God. This accessible volume is designed to help you deepen your knowledge of God’s word and answer the question, What do you believe?

Excellent!

Well worth every Christian’s time. The performance is great and the content even better. Dr. Sproul makes this difficult and dense document clear and understandable.

Wonderful Listen. Sproul At His Finest!

This is an outstanding commentary on the Westminster Confession and is filled with theological depth, practical application, and historical insight.

The only very minor drawback is, at least in my opinion what appears to be, the narrator’s attempt to “channel Sproul” in casting the original author’s enthusiasm (which is well known) and characteristic inflections throughout the reading.

Overall, a highly recommended listen.

What a thrilling journey through the confession

Very easy to listen. Systematic. Strong foundations. Thorough. Thoughtful. Convicting. Ten out of ten. Highly recommend.

Incredible book and insight

I believe this is the gold standard for helping readers understand and apply the doctrines of The Westminster Confession of Faith. Christians that are new to the faith may struggle to understand some of the concepts at first and you may want to start at a more basic book. A good one would be, “Knowing God” by J.I. Packer. But, if you are willing to take the time, it is one of the best books on reformed doctrine that I’ve ever read. And I’ve read a lot! If you are not reformed in your understanding, this one would be good for you to read as well to see at what points you specifically struggle. I highly recommend this book.

Wonderful and deep.

The only thing that would have made this better would be if Sproul narrated this himself. That said, the narration is great, read with enthusiasm much like Dr. Sproul himself.

Excellent summary of the WCF

Took me almost a year, but I finally finished this! The audio performance is very dynamic and keeps this lengthy book for being too overwhelming.

Great book ruined by narration

This is a wonderful academic work on the Westminster Confession from the brilliant mind of R. C. Sproul…ruined by the narrator who screams, yells and whispers like a backwoods preacher. This is an academic intellectual work, not a horror story or romance novel.

Good overall summary of reformed theology

I enjoyed the reader’s ability to keep my attention. It was a good summary of reformed theology. However, I felt the R.C. Sproul was selective in his use of Jonathan Edwards. There was much from Edwards that wasn’t mentioned. I also don’t agree with the writer’s definition of repentance. It seemed to change depending on the section. It should be a change of mind or thinking and then taking action in going the other direction.
