Publisher's summary

In Surrounded by Setbacks, internationally best-selling author Thomas Erikson turns his attention to a universal problem: what to do when things go wrong. Too often it seems like our dreams and ambitions - whether it’s finally getting that corner office, lacing up your running shoes again, or building a flourishing relationship with your partner - are derailed by one roadblock or another. So, how do we learn to take setbacks in stride and still achieve our goals?

In Surrounded by Setbacks, Erikson answers that question. Using simple, actionable steps, Erikson helps listeners identify the “why” behind their goal, create a concrete plan toward achieving it, and - most importantly - avoid many of the most common pitfalls that derail us when we attempt something new. The simple four-color behavior system that made Surrounded by Idiots revolutionary now helps listeners reflect on how they respond to adversity, giving them the self-awareness to negotiate the inevitable obstacles of life with confidence.

Loved this

This book was great. It was a little long; but it was so worth it. I love when he talks about the colors! I'm a green for sure!

Comprehansive book

Really well written and complete developement book the not only covers the usual self help material but provides scientific support from psychological and managerial aspects. I liked the idea that “Success is a rent due everyday” I think this summarise the message very well. I wish if it’s available in Arabic.

A Great Read!

I feel like most of this is self-explanatory but I love the insight on how to plan for achievable goals and how to actually reach them. I definitely love the voice and speed of the audio read.

Loved Surrounded by Idiots

This is the third book I've tried reading of Erikson's. I couldn't finish it or the previous one. While some of the I found is redundant, there is plenty of fresh material but it feels like it is all filler and taken out of other folks play books.

I was expecting way more almost exclusively follow up with regard to communication style and color reference. This author while seeming well intended fails to understand the potential family family setbacks from caring for challenged children. I gad yo close it when he got on with his get up amd just do it malarkey.

The low point in the series (so far)

I really enjoyed Surrounded by Idiots and Surrounded by Bad Bosses. Both used simple imagery (colors) to help characterize and understand different personalities and how to communicate with them in a unique execution that felt so much more interesting than this book.

Surrounded by Setbacks is your stereotypical Self-help "pull yourself up by your bootstraps because you are trash and everything wrong in your life is your fault" content that you will get from any other book in this genre.

I dove into this series to improve my communication, not receive pseudo-inspiration. It was disappointing and I hope the rest of the series manages to bounce back and produce material that is actually practical.
