Very interesting!

Despite her voice affliction that the author talks about, her voice was perfectly fine with plenty of personality. I did think parts of her story were somewhat sugar-coated, probably to present the best possible version of history, but the rest made me sweat a bit and wring my hands. There were pitfalls and triumphs. I have to go back to see if she talks about how she got out of paying the other Schmidt's 50% after the $38k contract for 50% control. This DID make me sweat. Maybe it was ugly and left out? It shouldn't have been if it was. It seems like Bob Schmidt just disappeared... not enough said. Nonetheless, I couldn't have done it. I now know why my own product could never make it big like this. I'm glad I have this information... errr... true story!

A rare find

Most entrepreneur stories are not relatable, let alone applicable. Especially in the CPG space. Jaime does such a good job sharing her story in a down to earth, relatable, and clear way. There is just the right amount of story and easily applicable insights. Jaime’s voice is also an important part of the narration of the book. I finished this book in less than 24 hours. Worth it and then some!

Know Who You Are and What Your Product Is

This is not a how-to story, but the telling of experiences and the determination required, and how that lead to success. This is a book to inspire other makers in their endeavors of how to navigate potential pitfalls, and a reminder to be vigilant but not to drive solely using your rear-view mirror. Schmidt writes of how hyper-focus on her brand and customers dictated her direction, and if there is anything we can take away from this read, it is to be true to your vision and the people your intend to serve, whatever that may be.
