When a wealthy entrepreneur is accused of murder in Los Angeles, wisecracking private eye Elvis Cole is hired to prove that the evidence was corrupted and becomes suspicious about the defense attorney's motivations.

Prominent restaurateur Teddy Martin is facing charges in his wife's brutal murder. But he's not going down without spending a bundle of cash on his defense. So his hotshot attorney hires P.I. Elvis Cole to find proof that Detective Angela Rossi tampered with the evidence.

Detective Rossi needs a way back to the fast track after falling hard during an internal investigation five years ago. But Cole needs to know if she's desperate enough to falsify the case against Martin in order to secure her own position.

As Cole and his partner Joe Pike work their way through a tangle of witnesses and an even greater tangle of media, they begin to suspect that it's not the police who are behind the setup.

The sixth book in the Elvis Cole series, Sunset Express is marked by Robert Crais's dark humor and edge-of-your-seat suspense.

The narrator’s lisp was so prominent that it was maddeningly distracting from the story. I cringed throughout the entire book. Decent storyline.

Worst narrator ever

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes, to have it re-recorded for better sound quality. Not up to Audible quality. Sounds like they just recorded from a tape that is going bad.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Naturally, Elvis & Joe

What three words best describe David Stuart’s performance?

Not as good as some of the other books he has performed.

Did Sunset Express inspire you to do anything?

Yes, write this review.

Any additional comments?

None.

Entertaining but poor quality, garbled at spots

Good story. Bits of humor and fun characters mixed in with detective work and some action. Really fun read.

Really enjoyed this listen

They didn’t even attempt to do decent voices for the characters. Absolute worst reading. SMH

This is the sixth book in the Elvis Cole series, and although not quite as good as Voodoo River, nevertheless continues the significant improvement in the series from the first couple books. Many reviewers suggest that this story is based on the OJ Simpson story, and maybe it is, but it wouldn’t have occurred to me. In this story, Cole is brought in to assist with a celebrity defense attorney’s case and he seems to uncover a major lead. But things soon take a suspicious turn and Cole needs to figure out exactly what is going on. The book concludes with great action. We also read more about Cole and Lucy, who he met in Voodoo River. I like that Cole’s character and relationships extend beyond a single book. All in all, a solid listen.

Solid PI detective story
