Publisher's Summary

Star Kingdom Omnibus contains Books 1-3 of the Star Kingdom series.

It is a time of treachery, terrorism, and tyranny in the Star Kingdom. The king cannot be trusted, the galaxy is on the brink of war, and a notorious mercenary is destroying everything - and everyone - in his path on his quest for vengeance.

The Star Kingdom is in dire need of heroes.

What it gets is a band of misfits and underdogs:

A washed-up bounty hunter struggling to make ends meet.
A genetically engineered cat woman on the run from her makers.
A robotics professor who gets space sick before leaving orbit.
A brilliant scientist who’s better at punching people than talking to them.

As unlikely as it seems, this motley crew is the best hope for bringing peace to the galaxy. But they have troubles of their own, and they’ll have to fly fast to avoid being hunted down and killed.

A romping science fiction adventure for fans of Star Wars and Firefly!

A brilliant, interesting, fun - incredible find!

I can't believe how absolutely incredible this series is and yet I almost passed it over! I search for hours to find great series, looking for books with lots of reviews - reading through them to get an idea - only starting series when the all the follow up books are of substantial length to warrant a credit (12+ hrs). And I almost passed over this book because it only had 300 ish reviews.
I AM SO GLAD I GAVE IT A CHANCE.
I have never read Lindsay's books, knew nothing about her, and the reviews made me jump in. I believe she really enjoyed writing this series because it shows in the great writing and intelligent editing.
The characters are true, deep, emotional - sucks you in until you feel like you are one of the team - like old friends. The story, while incredibly fun and interesting... well, by book 4, the multitude of interwoven story arcs become deeper, humanized and thought provoking, all helping carry the an unlikely hero along an unintended journey. This type of story has been done so many times - you'd think it couldn't be told differently - Lindsay did!
I don't care if this genre is one which you don't gravitate towards - you will like this series. It is more than just scifi. The book's description said this series was like Star Wars or Firefly. I don't agree. I think the deep, well written characters, who continually evolve through their relationships, hardships and individual struggles, trying to stay true to themselves ("doing what they think is right"), while struggling through relatable problems and internal conflicts - this series becomes more.
AND IT"S ALSO A HELLA FUN RIDE!
The narration is fantastic! Fred is a god of voices.
I really hope you give this series a try. Not only because it is an incredibly fun story, not only because it is meaningful, but because you deserve great things - and this series is a gift.
I started with the Omnibus and didn't stop until book 6 - absolutely addicting.

Lindsay - I don't know if you read these reviews - I'd be scared to as I imagine it's an emotional roller coaster. But if you do - please bundle your other series into books which are longer than 12 hrs - I'll listen to them all. I get that you probably give most of the proceeds to the different people and businesses who touch your book, they have a formula of length vs profit and they are the "experts", but a working person such as myself, who enjoys listening to great stories as much as you like writing great stories - I can't swing 1 credits for a 10 hr book. If you write for readers like me... well - fans such as myself will shout your name to everyone we know, we'll will give you way more marketing than audibles alone can provide and we will buy every word you write. Do it for us and we will never let you down! You are a great storyteller and writer!

Hits all the points

Normally 27 hours of sci-fi for one credit means the story is mediocre or the reader is lacking. This is the first exception for me.

Opens immediately upon action and mystery. The book(s) ebb and flow between periods of excitement and action followed by contemplation, planning, and scheming. It keeps the action fresh and adds intelligence to the characters building them naturally. The world Buroker has built is inviting of curiosity for other possible stories giving hints of many goings on besides the central story. It leaves open many possible avenues for expansion of the series as thirteen unique systems available and possibly more.

Fred Berman’s voicing is superb adding accents, inflections, and timing unique to each character.

I couldn’t ask for better sci-fi and look forward to another book in the series. Time to get more by Buroker and Berman.

Worth a Read - Star Kingdom's a Lot of Fun

I really enjoyed Star Kingdom Omnibus I. The first three books of the series for one credit's a great deal. I first became acquainted with Lindsay Buroker in her Emperor's Edge series and thoroughly enjoyed it as well. Lindsay creates characters that are both likable and fun to spend time with. There are parallels between the two series, while set in very different universes, the main character has strong moral values and is a really good person. They are offset by a more deadly and morally ambiguous secondary character and interesting relationships develop. Other supporting characters flesh out the plot lines, they're typically likable and amusing. The story line in both series is interesting and pulls you in although you do have to suspend disbelief occasionally. I find the mix entertaining and just purchased the Star Kingdom Omnibus II with books 4 and 5. I look forward to listening to it.

Fred Berman captures the voice of the main character perfectly and does an admirable job giving all the other characters unique voices of their own.

Lindsay's stories are remarkably clean by today's standards; no bad language or graphic sex scenes which makes a nice break from a lot of the stories out there.

If you haven't tried her work yet, I recommend giving her a try.

I loved this Omnibus

.... And wait with anticipation for sequels! Lindsay Buroker's Fallen Empire Series was also delightful. How utterly fortunate that this series and that one, read by different people, both found stellar performers in Berman and Reading. Good, clean, fun in these delightful sci-fi/ fantasy novels. You won't regret spending the credit on this one!

If your looking for deep technical space opera with extensive descriptions , this may not be for you .

But I admit I throughly enjoyed the book ..... 5 stars. And a thank you to the author.

I struggled for 7 hours

I can't listen to it anymore. the narrator is very good but the book is nothing but the same plot devices in every situation for every character. the main characters are morons and have zero depth.

Enjoyable and a Tribute to the Good Guy

I picked the Omnibus up for a credit and was delightfully surprised. The characters are well done, the story is fun, and the narrative is pleasant. The story is refreshingly absent of the moral ambiguity that rules fiction today. As such, it is easier on the mind and emotions.

It has been a great friend during COVID restrictions.

Fantastic Adventure

I loved all three books in this omnibus. The technology is detailed (but not too much!), and the arc of the story carries through all three, even though each book feels complete. There are several point-of-view characters, but each one is so well established, they feel like old friends by the end. I appreciated and loved that the characters were of various ages, abilities, ethnicities, and even religions.

The narrator also did a great job.

Excellent

Good story, a bit predictable but sometimes if it's well performed, I don't have a problem with that.

Escape when needed.

Really enjoyable escapism, fun use of science and non-standard leading characters. I do value the humorous banter of Buroker’s novels. I think I pretty much have listened to or read all of them now (including Ruby’s). Please keep writing!

Not for me

I am sorry but I hated the reader, too fast and no feeling, The story was not clear and too much going on at the same time. I found it hard to follow and gave up.

It couldn’t draw me in

I listened to 7 hours of this whilst I worked, because normally I love Lindsay Buroker’s series, but I am not invested enough to continue it tomorrow.
I shall re-listen to Fallen Empire instead (much more to my taste).

wonderful

wonderful characters and a great story, with good subplots. Humour, wits and an uncanny ability to talk people into helping him see our unexpected hero manage to survive with a lot of help from his 'friends'.
