Set in Colonial New England, Slewfoot is a tale of magic and mystery, of triumph and terror as only dark fantasist Brom can tell it.

Connecticut, 1666.

An ancient spirit awakens in a dark wood. The wildfolk call him Father, slayer, protector.

The colonists call him Slewfoot, demon, devil.

To Abitha, a recently widowed outcast, alone and vulnerable in her pious village, he is the only one she can turn to for help.

Together, they ignite a battle between pagan and Puritan - one that threatens to destroy the entire village, leaving nothing but ashes and bloodshed in their wake.

“If it is a devil you seek, then it is a devil you shall have!”

Reseñas de la Crítica

"I loved this book. A roaring, bloody, beautiful work of pure imagination." (Andy Davidson, author of The Boatman's Daughter)

"Punctuated by moments of unanticipated levity as well as unmitigated terror, this clever and imaginative tale is not to be missed by fans of dark fantasy and historical horror." (Library Journal)

I love Brom and this was yet another great story. Odd creatures, exciting story line, great character development. And in regards to the reader. She did a fantastic job. There was even a part where the character sang and she not only sang the part but sang so well! It was a really lovely addition.

Great as always 🙂

Yet another incredible book from the creepily creative Brom. I love how each novel feels like they are ever so slightly connected. Slewfoot is hauntingly beautiful with a truly captivating story. I could say more but honestly you should just read it.

This was a surprisingly tasty read and I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. If you like transformation stories, give this a chance.

The narrator was great, she had a good range of accents which I love and Brom never disappoints with his story telling.

I read a few other brown books and this one really surprised me. I didn't think it was nearly as good as his other books. I almost put it down but eventually something captured me and made me want to keep reading it. It's a decent book but certainly nothing like his other Books that I read.

is this really Brom?

I really resisted buying this one based on other reviews. I’m going to have to go back & reread & try to figure out what they were saying that signaled this story would be too dark for me. There is some graphically described violence, most of it historically appropriate & contextually unavoidable. There is also rampant religious conservatism, oppression & corruption, also historically unavoidable and contextually appropriate. Some violence could be a little much for a reader sensitive to graphic detail but if you can sit through a modern horror movie you’ll probably be fine.
I liked the reader’s voice & characterization. The reader’s ability to sneer in a British accent is worth an extra star all on its own. The writing was good, the story was good - a very entertaining take on the history of early America & of the symbolic relationship between various religions. I enjoyed where the author went with that. At the danger of providing a SPOILER if you were wishing for a little payback for the witch trials you would not be entirely disappointed.

Not as dark as I was led to think
