"This irreverent fantasy is narrated superbly by author Christopher Buehlman. Along with his firsthand knowledge of the text and how he means it to be conveyed, Buehlman uses nuance, inflection, and a casual way of saying outrageous things to continually tickle the funny bone." (AudioFile Magazine)

Set in a world of goblin wars, stag-sized battle ravens, and assassins who kill with deadly tattoos, Christopher Buehlman's The Blacktongue Thief begins a "dazzling" (Robin Hobb) fantasy adventure unlike any other.

Kinch Na Shannack owes the Takers Guild a small fortune for his education as a thief, which includes (but is not limited to) lock-picking, knife-fighting, wall-scaling, fall-breaking, lie-weaving, trap-making, plus a few small magics. His debt has driven him to lie in wait by the old forest road, planning to rob the next traveler that crosses his path.

But today, Kinch Na Shannack has picked the wrong mark.

Galva is a knight, a survivor of the brutal goblin wars, and handmaiden of the goddess of death. She is searching for her queen, missing since a distant northern city fell to giants.

Unsuccessful in his robbery and lucky to escape with his life, Kinch now finds his fate entangled with Galva's. Common enemies and uncommon dangers force thief and knight on an epic journey where goblins hunger for human flesh, krakens hunt in dark waters, and honor is a luxury few can afford.

Reseñas de la Crítica

“Beuhlman's prose floats nimbly from grisly to lyrical and back again, evoking a damaged world that's by turns bleak and starkly beautiful. A fantastical road trip with a hard-boiled sensibility, complete with shape-shifting assassins, murderous kraken and some delightfully gruesome magic.” (A. K. Larkwood, author of The Unspoken Name)

“Wow! Truly outstanding. I can't say enough about how good The Blacktongue Thief is. Damned good stuff.” (Glen Cook, author of The Black Company)

“Equal parts fairy tale, D&D adventure, and acid trip. Buehlman has successfully blended the essences of these elements into something at once familiar and fresh. I look forward to returning to this evocative and f*cked up world!” (Jonathan French, author of The Grey Bastards)

The Blacktongue Thief is a masterclass in voice and thoughtful world design, with a wonderful cast and a protagonist who grabs you instantly. Fans of Lynch's The Lies of Locke Lamora will love this one.” (Django Wexler, author of The Thousand Names)

Featured Article: The top 100 fantasy listens of all time

When compiling our list of the best fantasy listening out there, we immediately came up against the age-old question: Is this fantasy or science fiction? The distinction is not as clear as you may think. Dragons, elves, and wizards are definitely fantasy, but what about wizards that also fly space ships? (Looking at you, Star Wars.) For the sake of fantasy purity, the top 100 fantasy listens include the best audio works in all manner of fantasy subgenres.

Witty Narration • Rich Worldbuilding • Masterful Voice Acting • Balanced Tone • Engaging Plot • Authentic Irish Accent

A little bit Game of Thrones, a dash of Harry Potter and everything that makes a book un-put-downable, I have listened to it 4 times so far.
I had an opportunity to read Black Tongue Thief on Net Galley, right before it was available for purchase. I made sure my public library, which is where I work bought it for the collection.
The world building is immediate and robust. The characters are flawed and impossible not to love and root for on their journey to set things right. Even though the narrator is an unwilling participant; Thief and small magicker, his kindness to a blind cat and ability to take a slap without staring a fight makes him absolutely loveable. Adventure on land and sea, fantastical creatures, love, loss, friendship, found family -- you will laugh and if you don't cry, I hope you get bitten by a Goblin!
Christopher Buehlman brings to life Kinch Na Shannack and all his companions (and foes) with humor and whimsy. Perhaps being
the author is why his accents and delivery are perfect. I cannot wait for more.

Loved it over and over!

Top 3, All time. SO GOOD.

I truly believe it takes a lot of empathy to make a dark world that isn't just an unrealistic display of fantastical violence. The author, using the first perspective of someone who has always spent his life in this world, really had a grasp that even in the worst worlds people rarely wanted to do violence. The most horrific scenes are grounded, honest, pathetic and done with more heart and soul than any Warhammer or similar entry in the Dark Fantasy genre.

A dark world, not mucked by a lack of perspective

Really enjoyable overall. Excellent narration by the author which was a rare treat since he knows best how his characters should be conveyed and is a good enough voice actor as well as writer to be able to do it. Good story, fast paced enough to keep me interested knowing if I wander away for 10 minutes without pausing I will actually miss something, and sprinkled with irreverent humor like glitter on a drag queen. The ending gave me that sentimental ‘that was the perfect way to end this even tho I’m sad there’s no more’ feeling I haven’t gotten from a good book in years.

Not even ready to start a new book after that

If I could give this book 6 stars if I could. I only read fantasy literature.. It's so rare to find a fantasy series that pulls you in so deeply yet keeps you throughout the entire book. And it's different to boot. Smh I am so upset that this book was not 30 hours long. As soon as the second book drops I'm purchasing it

This book was five stars after the first chapter

In a genre often overwhelmed by tropes and predictable plots, this fantasy novel was a joy. The characters were fresh and well-conceived, smart and flawed and likable without ever resorting to unexplained abilities or abrupt revelations. Though it is the first in a series, the main character’s arc is satisfyingly resolved. Great work read by the author, a masterful and funny narrator who clearly loves his world.

Extraordinary performance; surprising story

I loved every minute. The story was dark, humorous and endearing. The voice performance was so well done. Apparently it's the author himself. So, so well done. I'm recommending this to everyone.

Outstanding story and audio book performance. I think I could happily listen Christopher Buehlman read a mathematics textbook and I’d still be throughly entertained. The man is a natural born story teller and you could feel his passion for his characters and story shine through. I highly recommend this audio book.

This is the most fun I've had listening in a while. I spent my meager lunch breaks going to my car just to hear another fifteen minutes of this fantastic story. I love all of the characters, but Kinch has taken his place among my best beloved. Beautiful, heartbroken world, one to be awed and infuriated by, much like our own. I will hear this one again and can't wait for the next.

So Much Fun
