Publisher's summary

Murder, scandal, political espionage and an extremely dangerous woman. Lucas Davenport's going to be lucky to get out of this one alive…

Lucas Davenport is investigating a vicious smear on a US senator when the trail leads to a political fixer’s disappearance. Then, very troublingly, it leads to the Minneapolis police department, then, most troublingly of all, to a woman who could give Machiavelli lessons. She has very definite ideas about the way the world should work, and the money, ruthlessness and sheer will to make it happen. No matter who gets in the way…

Not 5 Stars But still Good

I love John Sandford and Lucus Davenport. I am listening to every book available. I think this is the least favorite Lucas Davenport novel in the the Prey series.
I liked bringing in Kidd and Lauren, but as others have said, thought the fact that they were willing to risk "their family life with their son " a bit ridiculous as well as it lead Davenport to find out things about Kidd and Lauren he hadn't known. I have to think this may be tied into a later story-line otherwise it was pointless and stupid. I also found there were too many characters and at times it was a bit confusing

His old pals like Shrake and Jensen and the other "hardened " Detectives Lucas works with didn't have as big a role in this book therefore the laughs and grins which usually accompany his work was almost missing. Most of the Prey series and the Flowers series are great books to listen to when I run out of new ones. This book will not be on my list of re-reads.

Richard Ferrone was outstanding with the delivery of the story.
