Publisher's Summary

The spiritual life is not a life then and there, but a life here and now. It is a life in which the spirit of God is revealed in the ordinary enccounters of every day. With a smile and a tear, Nouwen looks at the day-to-day events of our lives and discovers there places where God chooses to dwell and call us.

always what I need

For over 23 years Henri Nouwen has been my spiritual director via his wise words in multiple publications. I continue to give college graduates his Bread for the Journey as gift. Usually in the inscription on the inside cover I will recommend this book (Here and Now) as a recommendation for further depth in a relationship with God. There is a syllable wasted in Nouwens writing. Love underscores every insight. Love is what I always need, both to receive and then to give. Nouwen opens my love sensitivity and motivates my sharing.

Not sure what to say

I did not find it as inspiring as some of his other works. I picked up maybe two things as opposed to dozens in things like Return of the Prodigal Son.
