Good preparation

I recently picked up Savor the Flavor and was really impressed with it as a vocabulary guide for learning food words in Japanese!

I have minimal background in Japanese, but planned on learning food words for an upcoming trip and was very satisfied with the experience. The audiobook is divided up into chapters based on food groups (or general categories like sushi or ramen). Each word is communicated in English, Japanese, and has an example sentence (in both Japanese and English). These are very simple sentences, but is helpful to learn the words and hear them used. All of the words in the chapter are repeated at the end of the chapter as well, so there is another opportunity to repeat for additional practice. I love the simplicity of the sentences, and on occasion, the select insert of cultural material to round off a word or chapter.

Overall, I am very happy with my experience with this audiobook. I love having this as a resource to listen to when driving around and to provide an opportunity to continually practice practical words in Japanese. This incredibly helpful book has been an absolute joy to listen to, making it a five-star gem for anyone eager to explore Japanese vocabulary, menus, and food – especially beginners!

I plan to pick up the physical book as well, and hope to follow along. I will report back after picking up the hard copy!
