Publisher's summary

Discover the award-winning time-travel thriller that Blue Ink Reviews says "combines the physics of chaos theory and the whiz-bang action of a techno thriller to fuel a military page-turner that tests the faith of everyone involved.”

Military scientist Rydel Scott has discovered time travel. He also believes he's received a message from God. The message: go back in time and save Jesus Christ from being crucified.

When a secret mission involving one of his inventions goes horribly wrong, Rydel obsessively tries to learn what caused the system failure and, in doing so, stumbles upon a physics-bending ability to travel through time.

Overworked and massively sleep-deprived, Rydel believes he has received a message from God—save God’s son. And the man of science embarks on a world-changing quest to rescue Jesus. As he covers his tracks to journey back undetected, he neglects to factor in the consequences of a devastating butterfly effect. And he’s terrified to discover The Unit, a highly-trained team of elite soldiers, is hunting him down to stop him from making choices that could upend all of human history. Will The Unit find Rydel before he alters the past? And, if they find him, can some members of the elite force be persuaded to join Rydel on his mission to save Jesus Christ from the cross?

Slow fizzle

This book, I read it in its entirety, is rather weak on the storyline. The premise of saving Jesus is fine, however, the writing and the movement to the end leave you with banal dialogue and a thin slow moving dialogue. Not recommended. I wanted to like the book as I found the idea of saving Jesus rather interesting. But without getting into theology, you simply have a very thin storyline that isn’t that appealing.

Exceptional Story Line with a Surprise Ending

Everyone that thinks about time travel always says they would travel to destroy Hitler, save JFK, or prevent the suffering of one person or many people. What if you could travel back in time thousands of years or even back to the beginning of time? Rydel Scott is a military scientist with a dying sister. She tells him how to use his top-secret military technology and who to save. Thus, the adventure begins with a stunning outcome and some deadly consequences.

William Hayes, the author, weaves a story around time travel and altering the past by saving one person. What makes this story unique is the person and action are not to destroy Hitler, save JFK, prevent WW1 or WW2 or prevent bombings, etc. The decision on who to save will leave the listener stunned. Adding in the natural enemy of this person further enriches the story and outcome. Each plot twist is unique to this story. Each character is well-developed and complete by the end of the book.

The narrator, Nick Gallagher provides unique and rich voices for each character. His enunciation and accents are perfect for each character and time period. Gallagher set the tone for the book with the rich voices and the steady pace of the story. He was a perfect narrator for this book. I look forward to hearing more performances by him.

Save Him is definitely a unique story that will leave the listener pondering what the outcome could be and what the consequences could be. I have to admit, I was not expecting this particular storyline and when it was revealed I was taken aback and shocked. I am amazed at the complexity of the plot and characters. Truly a rich and vivid story.

There were no issues with the sound or quality of this audiobook, it was clear and crisp.
