Ok so I loved it, Kink and ALL! Made me want a toy

I was given this book in return for my unbiased honest opinion. I liked this book and thought that it was different and refreshing so to speak. I mean it had some similarities to it but I mean why recreate the wheel. This book had a lot going on though but again it kept me entertained. I loved the narration. 5 star Hot and Lusty listen.

Saucy saucy

Overall, I enjoyed this audio. The character development was really entertaining and the premise was unique from the other D/S books I have listened to. When the Dom took down his nemesis, it was epic.

I have listened to other Sierra Kline audios and she always does a great job. I would say watch the nasal tone in some scenes but mostly great job!

Although I was given a copy of this audio from Audiobook Boom, it in no way influenced this review.

Fun....but frustrating

Overall I did enjoy the book. I thought the characters were well developed. The performance is strong and the writing is decent, but I had a lot of problems with the Dom's actions which made me dislike him and the plot felt less believable because of it.

What kind of Dom takes a person who is totally new to the scene to an event where they are bound and blindfolded and then *leaves the room*? And takes his partner with him so she is totally unsupervised?

He is really insensitive to his sub past the point of the D/s dynamics. The threesome scene with the best friend felt pretty rapey to me.

Despite the title, there's very little about the dynamic of Ashley being their "toy".

The take down of his nemesis was pretty hand-wavy and didn't feel realistic.

I listened to the audible version of this book, and the narration was very well done. I enjoyed the growing relationship between the 3 leading characters. It all begins when Ashley wrecks her car in the front lawn of wealthy homeowner, Daniel. Ashley’s car does quite the number on the landscaping, and Ashley doesn’t know how she can pay for the repairs. But feeling the need to make reparation, Ashley goes around to the back of the house when no one answers her knock, only to find a very naked Evangeline standing in submission on the back deck while Daniel reads his paper.
Ashley is momentarily taken aback by the scene in front of her, but it doesn’t take her long to offer herself to the couple in any way that can make up for the damage she has done to the lawn. Yes, it sounds far-fetched and pretty dangerous, too. But if you can role with the unlikely premise, the majority of what follows is fun.
Ashley gets to know the loving couple, and finds herself developing deeper feelings as she plays with them over the following weeks. The play is sensual and always pleasing to each party involved, so Ashley enjoys getting to explore the kinky side of sex. This is not hard core BDSM. If anything, it is some light-hearted menage and D/s. Evangeline always remains Daniels true love interest, with Ashley becoming a trusted and cherished friend of the couple.
Almost the entire book is devoted to the developing friendship and love-play between these 3 characters. You get a good look into their daily lives and their sexual proclivities in a way that is entertaining and fun. I thought the characters were very well fleshed out as people. I always prefer to get to know my characters well enough to understand their motivations and actions. So the ending of the book came as a rather unexpected surprise.
SPOLER ALERT
At the very last minute in the book, Ashley falls in love with the manager of Daniels sex club. Yes, they meet under stressful circumstances when Mike rescues her from an abusive Domme at the club. Then they work together for a while before they finally express love for each other. But the whole thing took so little time in the book compared to relationship between Ashley, Daniel, and Evangeline. It felt very abrupt. I found myself wondering why it felt so “tacked on” at the end, sort of like the author’s afterthought. They end up in love, and yet their relationship isn’t fleshed out very well at all.
Still, I enjoyed the read, and would listen to other books by Jason Walker. I noticed he has done some shorter works. I prefer longer books, so I will keep my eye open for more from him in the future. I found his writing to be very engaging. Other than the abrupt relationship with Ashley and Mike, I loved how well his characters are written.

A fairly well-written novel

The Master’s Toy is part of a longer work entitled By Invitation Only. To some extent the title is a little misleading; I don’t think it would be unreasonable for a listener to expect that they were in for generous samplings of domination and submission as well as other related naughtiness over the 8 1/2 hour length of this audiobook. But that is not the case, alas. There is some of that toward the beginning, but most of the varied sexual aspects depicted in the balance of the story are not particularly kinky, and often lightly touched upon on or somewhat in the background.

To the author’s credit, this is a fairly well-written novel with a plot that happens to have erotic scenarios in realistic settings under plausible circumstances. Unfortunately, most of them are not of the type that the title implies. So if any sex is good sex is what you’re after then it delivers, but if you’re hoping to be immersed in the tale of a submissive toy being put through her paces, not so much.

Beyond the shortage of kink, my main criticisms of this book are the over-long passage chronicling the comeuppance of a stereotyped villain, a tendency toward expository minutiae, and a vaguely pedantic tone when articulating D/s sensibilities. For me at least, the best part of this audiobook is Sierra Kline’s narration. She does a superlative job with the many voices―both genders, diverse ages and a range of personality types.

A Great Book with a Great Performance !

The story was engrossing and very believable. The characters were authentic and the way they are portrayed was enjoyable. The performance really stood out. Sierra Kline took a variety of characters and voiced each one in such a way that it was easy to keep up with them. Her performance was astounding. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in D/S stories that entrance and entertain.
