Bailey Dewitt is on a crash course with Armageddon. Orphaned, she and her young brothers find themselves living with their renegade uncle. Part of a group of survivalists, she is terrified to discover they are preparing for the end of the world! Could they be right - is mankind headed for a global disaster of its own making?
While Bailey struggles with that question and what she should do about it, Caleb, a man from the group, becomes her dearest friend and the one person she can trust to love and protect her. When things spiral out of control, will their bond be enough to save the entire community, or will rival forces strip away all that they have worked for at the time they need it most?

Rendered is a young adult novel about Bailey, a 16-year-old whose parents are killed in an accident. She and her twin brothers are taken to a new home by their uncle. Something seems off, though, but Bailey isn’t sure what it is.
Bailey and her uncle get off on the wrong foot and at first, her attitude annoyed me but the more I read, the more I realized that she’s 16 and she just lost her parents, her home, her friends, and her perfect life. She really has a right to be upset with her uncle who is great to the twins but isn’t so nice to her. She’s not even given time to mourn.
I expected more from this story. Hailey and her brothers end up in a community with their uncle. The people in this community believe that there’s going to be a world catastrophe probably sooner than later and they’re prepared for it. The community members don’t think Bailey will fit in but she really tries and does a good job of it. She works hard and makes friends, especially with 21-year-old Caleb. But can she change the minds of everyone in the community?
Samantha Jacobey is a good storyteller and this was a quick and easy read. The one thing that stood out was the use of “the girl” in place of Bailey’s name or the pronoun “she.” I would have preferred Bailey or “she.” The narrator, Sarah Rogers, did a good job enunciating and made it easy to listen to Rendered. The pauses were appropriate and I could differentiate between voices.
This was a good start to a series but not really a stand alone book. I’m looking forward to reading the next book and finding out what happens.
Not really a stand alone

I liked how the author portrayed the community. You think you know where the author is going but towards the end she shows them in a different light which shows that they are human and not everything is what it seems.
There is some profanity no sexual content but there is a scene where it is talked about but this links in with the society that she is living with so it is understandable.
I am really looking forward to the next book. I am intrigued to find out what is going to happen next.

This was a slow but decent book. It really focuses on the main character, Bailey, and her struggles to fit in and cope with loss. The overall story is a little slow to get rolling, but gets more interesting as things progress. This wasn't my favorite book, but decent.
decent but not my favorite
