Being a professional escort comes with its vices. To keep women from getting too clingy, stop them from dropping their panties, and silence them before they can blurt the L word, Rhett has made certain rules. He never breaks them. Ever. But when Aspen, a beautiful brunette, hires him to help repair her image to her family, things get complicated.
After being left at the altar, Jade Roberts seeks solace at her best friend's ranch on the Colorado western slope. Her humiliation still ripe, she doesn't expect to be attracted to her friend's reticent brother, but when the gorgeous cowboy kisses her, all bets are off. Talon Steel is broken. Having never fully healed from a horrific childhood trauma, he simply exists, taking from women what is offered and giving nothing in return...until Jade Roberts catapults into his life.
I owe him a debt. A big one. The payment can't be settled with money or favors. He only wants one thing. Me. Every action gets a reward. A button. Once I fill his jar with 365 buttons, he'll let me go. He'll let me walk away. But I have to earn every single one. By submitting to the darkest, cruelest, and most beautiful man I've ever known.
It seemed like a good idea at the time. Look up Landon Roderick, that boy from childhood whom I'd never been able to forget - even though he so easily forgot about me - and call him. Then again, anything sounds like a good idea when you've had a little too much wine before bed, right? It was supposed to be just a quick, meaningless prank call. Instead I went off on him - unloading 13 years of pent-up emotions. I didn't think he'd call me back.
My life has never been whole since my parents left forever. I have my brother, someone I can barely tolerate most of the time, and I have my best friend, Marie. And I have myself. But when Hawke walks into my life, there's an immediate connection. Our eyes lock and an unspoken conversation is exchanged. For the first time in my life, I actually feel something. But he doesn't. He keeps me at arm's length and pretends there's nothing between us when there clearly is. I'm not the kind of girl to wait around for any guy, so I don't.
White-hot, blinding, and dangerous. That's exactly what Volt is. He's electric. The first time I met him, my body reacted. It coiled, sizzled, and sparked. I knew I wanted him because he was the first man to make me feel dead and alive at the exact same time.

The man I hate lives next door. He must have just moved in, even though I never saw the moving truck. He's just as arrogant as I remember, mowing the lawn without a shirt and grinning like an idiot. When he catches me staring at him through the window, he winks. So cocky. He flirts with me like he never broke my heart. And then he tells me something that I just can't believe. We're married.
Cayson is in love with Skye Preston, his best friend for over 20 years. They grew up together, bathed together, and spent every holiday together. Hoarding the secret hasn't been easy. Every time Cayson sees her with a boyfriend, he wants to smash his fist into a wall. But he could never tell her the truth.
My brother is an idiot. He won the lottery and invested all of his money in a run-down bowling alley. Since he's barely making it, he moved in with me. Great. Having him around the house isn't the worst thing in the world, but he does make a mess like nobody's business. My friends Zeke, Jessie, and Kayden keep me sane but there's only so much they can do. And it's definitely not the worst thing in the world when his old friend, Ryker, moves to town.
The first time I met Caine West was in a bar. He noticed me looking his way and mistakenly read my scowling as checking him out. When he attempted to talk to me, I set him straight -- telling him what I thought of his lying, cheating, egomaniacal ass. You see, the gorgeous jerk had wined and dined my best friend-smooth talking her into his bed, all along failing to mention that he was married. He deserved every bit of my tongue-lashing and more for what he'd done.
Growing up, the three of us were friends. He was the nerd. I was the playboy. She was the beauty. Deep down, I only ever wanted her. I kept it inside because Rory and I made a pact that our friend, Amber, was off-limits. He lied. I went off to college, and he got the girl. Amber never knew how I felt. They were together for years - before he broke her heart. Through it all and across the miles, she and I casually stayed in touch. When my job sent me to Boston for a three-month contract position, Amber let me stay in her spare room.
Garrett Hawkins is the most valuable asset to his Special Forces unit, because, frankly, the guy doesn't care if he lives or dies anymore. Since the love of his life, Sage Weston, was kidnapped and killed with her medical unit a year ago, Garrett has turned the shell of his soul into the armor of a finely tuned fighting machine. Being the first tapped for the unit's craziest missions is just fine by him. The less time for memories and the agony they carve into his soul, the better.
Ash
Despite everything I've done for my parents, I'll never be good enough for them. Instead of seeing a man to be proud of, they just see an embarrassment. I served four tours in Afghanistan but that doesn't mean anything to them. They only see the ink, the party life, and my short stint in jail.
And nothing else.
When they were in trouble, I handed over my life savings. I didn't think twice about it because they're my family, my blood. They raised me to be my own man and gave me everything I needed. It didn't matter that it was every penny I had. It didn't matter that the money was set aside for my future. My dreams.
Because they needed me.
But now they refuse to pay me back until I become the man they think I should be.
Alessandra
I have an unusual profession.
I escort men, acting as their date to family functions or work parties. It's my job to act deeply in love with my client. And I always nail it.
But it's not what you think.
I'm not a prostitute.
I'm not a call girl.
I'm an actress.
Get it right.
There are strict rules when it comes to my profession. There is no touching, kissing, or anything but hand-holding. Those who choose not to comply will get a swift kick in the nuts.
But all this goes to hell when Ash walks into my life.
I really don't like giving negative reviews, and others may perhaps find this listen good, but unfortunately I didn't and for a few reasons - Ash was handsome and toned but he was such a douche bag as a main man. A beautiful package that was obnoxious, arrogant, cocky and conceited on the inside with comments like "kissing is juvenile and the least arousing thing", "kids are like leeches", "thanks I look good in everything", "opinions are irrelevant to me" and when Alessandra said I love you he says "yeah I get that a lot"... oh I could go on and on quoting the man-whore. When things got hot between him and Alessandra he didn't fool around which was a plus and his whole attitude towards girlfriends, marriage, love and commitment may have changed towards the end.... but by this time I was done. I really tried but sadly, by the half-way mark, I knew I couldn't stand to hear anymore.
There was also random silences between sentences or scenes, the narrator (or tech team) duplicated words quite a few times and the female narrator was positively awful with monotone voices from characters who all sounded the same. It would have been better if the male narrator had narrated the whole book because he was good... and the 3 stars on Performance is solely for him. This suffered, as I did, because of the poor narration and so it may be better read.... anyway arrogant man-whore needs and meets vulnerable recently hurt Escort, they become friends - with lots of sex, then a bit of drama followed by misunderstandings and angst. Dual POV's, HEA with no cliffhanger and it's a standalone listen.
Worth a credit? IMO, shallow plot, lying and cheating to parents, tech problems, dislikable characters and one awful narrator so, for me, the answer would be a definite NO..... and I'm asking for my credit back right now.

I only want to offer constructive criticism for the female narrator because I can't do any better...
the narration felt rushed with limited breaths or pauses or emotion. I had difficulty telling the difference between when one character stopped talking and when another began. also, there were a lot of "whoops, pause, repeat the last line again" moments.

I love that the book explains what happen to Rhett, Troy, Cato, Jet, and River from the first series. This book was amazing from beginning to end. I especially love the ending and how it took you a little farther into Ash and Alessandra's life. Can't say enough about this book. Definitely a must read.
