Publisher's Summary

If you're looking for a practical audiobook that provides useful knowledge about risk-management concepts, then pay attention....

Plenty of people think they can beat the market. They pick high-growth stocks or value stocks, they watch their portfolios carefully, and they think they'll do well. But if they don't know about risk management, they could experience failure.

Basic concepts of risk management are useful to the individual investor or the small-business owner. In this audiobook, we might not go into the advanced details of how to calculate the Black-Scholes formula or run a global banking RM function, but we'll show you how thinking about risk in an educated way can transform your investment and business prospects.

Here are some of the topics that are discussed in this audiobook:

  • The benefits of risk management
  • The basic concepts and vocabulary of risk management you must know
  • Enterprise risk management, including crucial questions for your analysis to be a success and much more
  • Risk management models and "The Greeks"
  • Credit risk management, including, for example, three ways to manage risk on a credit portfolio
  • Essential aspects of market risk management
  • Operational risk management
  • Hedging your bets
  • Managing assets and portfolios
  • Losses and limits
  • Instruments for managing risk
  • And much, much more

Too basic and simplistic for me

It might be okay as a very first appetizer, but if you have a need to dig in in any depth at all, you will want to look further, fast. It does give a feel for some major areas and topics.

Really good book, a bit longer than it needed to be but very good at pointing out massive flaws in what people understand by the term 'risk'.Really great guide!!!

An ok book

As someone that manages hedging and risk management teams myself, this is certainly a book that I would recommend to practitioners. Finally, it is clear that the author and the people he thanked in the acknowledgments spent quite a bit of time proofreading the final guidance. The writing is clear, well-articulated, and thoughtful.

Soiled method

This is a solid method. However, due to the detail and amount of effort to maintain and create the documentation, I wonder how many companies have deployed this methodology with success?

Excellent narration

this is written for an audience with genuine interest risk management primarily focused on financial firms. Well written, especially for those with some working knowledge of the subject. While not a textbook, it has gotten large and may not be the best choice for a curious first timer.

had a lot of information

A brief history of the Basel regulation is given and how important volatility is for the risk management. The different forms of value at risk is introduced and how it is used in the different risk measurement. It is the main book on the theme and I think the practical action will take place in the application of the theory. No mater how long it is relevant. You can read it with the basic skills in maths and no long mathematical treatise are used. It is easy to understand.

Good and Realistic!!!

A wonderful overview of financial risk management. I am not a financial analyst, but I can appreciate the clearly described systems put in place to adjust for risk. The book certainly gives a greater appreciation of what financial analysts are considering when they look at a company's balance sheet.

Better

This book really helped get me set up with a solid basis- more complete and easier to digest- than anything else out there. I work in a big financial company, too, and this helped shed light on how the concepts fit together. Too bad my management didn't know it before the crisis!
