Slum-dwelling orphan Garrett Walker scrounges for scraps in the wildlands beyond the walls that guard society, salvaging valuables from the ruins of fallen civilization.

Offered the opportunity to compete in the Warden Academy entrance trials, Garrett seizes the chance for a better life. However, the academy holds dangers a street rat is ill-equipped to handle and he’ll have to grow stronger while relying on his wits to survive.

Rivalries turn heated as Garrett’s hard work challenges classmates who would rather rely on family connections and wealth to succeed. As society's most affluent see the threat in Garrett's rise, he will discover that not all enemies live outside the city walls.

I need more please! Such a great book and I have already listened to the first book 3 times already. Please, I need more.

Wait for book 2 would definitely be worth it

A rare original twist on a much explored genre definitely worth diving into more. One of my favorite things in an MC is not wasting time sitting on character points definitely eliminated any usual frustration lol!

Thoroughly enjoyed

I really enjoyed the book. I hope the author writes a follow-up. I am glad the characters pushed him to do it. the writing was great and so was the performance. I liked the audio version so much I bought the e book version. It is a twist on an academy story and is worth reading or listening.

Fantastic

I love the mixture of fantasy races, post apocalypse, academy, and rags to riches concepts so it checks all my boxes. I can't wait for the next book!

A rollercoaster ride

The story has some slower parts but it more than makes up for them with edge of the seat action. I really enjoyed the book and the author has moved up my ladder of favorite writers. Tim V
