Publisher's summary

What is America becoming? Or, more importantly, what can she be if we reclaim a vision for the things that made her great in the first place?

In America the Beautiful, Dr. Ben Carson helps us learn from our past in order to chart a better course for our future. From his personal ascent from inner-city poverty to international medical and humanitarian acclaim, Carson shares experiential insights that help us understand:

  • What is good about America
  • Where we have gone astray
  • Which fundamental beliefs have guided America from her founding into preeminence among nations

Written by a man who has experienced America's best and worst firsthand, America the Beautiful is at once alarming, convicting, and inspiring. You'll gain new perspectives on our nation's origins, our Judeo-Christian heritage, our educational system, capitalism versus socialism, our moral fabric, healthcare, and much more.

An incisive manifesto of the values that shaped America's past and must shape her future, America the Beautiful calls us all to use our God-given talents to improve our lives, our communities, our nation, and our world.

Great book

Very insightful and has opened my eyes to think beyond political party affiliation and think logical about decisions I make when voting.

Ben Carson for President 2020!!

Dr. Carson has an ability to reach many people based on his life experiences. His logic is irrefutable . He represents all that is best about being an American. I would recommend this book to anyone age eight to eighty to help them realize that their basic beliefs affect everything they work for.
I'm a medical professional and I hope that even in 2016 they recruit him to straighten out our healthcare system!

God has blessed Dr. Carson with an understanding of what really matters in this life and I stand with him. God bless America.

A must read for all.

Would you listen to America the Beautiful again? Why?

I already have, I have listened to it twice and plan to listen to it again. Ben Carson's life and subsequent achievements are an inspiration to all Americans. His diplomatic, yet no nonsense views and ideas on government are awe inspiring. He is a true American success story. Proving once again that a parent who tempers love and disipline with a strong sense of self worth, can over come unbelievably difficult obstacles. Too many parents believe, as the government does, give them everything. Ben's mother had the intuitive belief that education and good values would prove far more valuable. I believe that this gentleman should if at all possible, seek an office in the public service sector. I believe he could very well be the next president of this great land. Looking forward to any future books.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

His humble way of describing his childhood, teen years and young adulthood. He did not shy away from telling how as a child the discrimination he experienced hurt him deeply. His recounting of the years of being treated as a second class citizen, instead of holding on to the hurt and anger he felt, he used the it as a type of fuel to do better and prove his self-worth. His candid accounts are heartbreaking. Yet there is no lingering loathing. Only a desire to give back. I admire this man greatly.

Which character – as performed by Dion Graham – was your favorite?

The author himself.

Any additional comments?

I look forward to any further books, articles or blogs from Ben Carson. Once again, I believe he has what it takes to be a leader. I am curious as to the role his wife played in the writing of this book. My guess is she is a great asset to a great man!

A Fresh View of Politics

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This perspective from an unusual and aclaimed source has some great ideas on how to get the country moving again and restore the civil discourse. It is not right or left wing. It is common sense.

The challenge for the country we should have had after 9/11.

Excellent Grasp of History

What made the experience of listening to America the Beautiful the most enjoyable?

It flows very smoothly from one topic to another. Dr. Carson does a very good job in engaging his audience, weaving his own experience in with the history that we may already know.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Well, I think Dr. Carson sort of stole the show. However, he would likely suggest that his mother should compete for this title.

Which scene was your favorite?

Running to save his life, when a bunch of racist children wanted to throw him in the river. I am sure that it was quite serious at the time, however, Dr. Carson was able to tell the story with a certain amount of levity, and understanding of the era. Moreover, it has imparted a degree of love for America in spite of her flaws, which we all should work to improve by working hard to be good people.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The Quest to be a Good People and a Great Nation Under God.

Any additional comments?

Loved it.
