Publisher's summary

Nothing is fair in war. Jonathan King is every bit his last name.

Powerful. Untouchable. Corrupted. He’s also my dead sister’s husband and way older than me.

When I first met him as a clueless child, I thought he was a god. Now, I have to confront that god to protect my business from his ruthless grip. Little did I know that declaring a war on the king will cost me everything. When Jonathan covets something, he doesn’t only win, he conquers. Now, he has his sights on me. He wants to consume not only my body, but also my heart and my soul. I fight, but there’s no escaping the king in his kingdom.

Reign of a King is the first book of a duet and is not stand-alone.

Oooooohhhhh Daddy 😆🥵🥵

This book is best enjoyed if you’ve listened/read the royal elite series. At least books 0-3. Story: The plot type of the story is familiar. “You be mine for x period of time in exchange for your company.” But like the rest of Royal Elite, there is a mystery that keeps you wanting more and blends well with the traditional romance trope/plot. The suspense is well paced and I am thoroughly engaged. Nothing seems forced and development is believable. And I called what happened to Alicia! Dunn dun duuuuuuunnnnnn!!!! There’s blood on somebody’s hands. Characters: I didn’t quite know what to expect from Jonathan, but he sums it up quite nicely himself. He’s not heartless. Just relentless. He is slowly becoming vulnerable to Aurora; and this is where you can see where Aiden gets it from. I like the way Aurora describes him. He’s not emotionless, rather his emotions are encrypted. I love how she is the only one who seems to get that. Jonathan is playful but demanding. Sweet when no ones looking and ruthless in his way to get Aurora’s attention and to protect her. Aurora is constantly compared to her sister. Unlike other stories where heroines feel less because such comparisons, Aurora acknowledges she is not her sister. She embraces that she is her own person and that she loves her sister dearly. No resentment. Instead there is something far more negative lurking over her heart. Aurora’s vulnerabilities and darkness stems from something I didn’t quite expect. She is a victim of trauma and assault (nothing sexual though). Sometimes it gets the better of her, but she endured and rises to move forward. I don’t blame the moments where she get overwhelmed and makes rash decisions. I can’t even imagine what it would be like to live with such a heavy weight within. While Jonathan is like the peace and security to her, she’s a storm to Jonathan. I think it’s a fascinating dynamic. I also love Aurora’s best friend and business partner Layla. She has Aurora’s trust because Aurora tells her everything except her dark past (for Layla’s protection). She’s funny and sexually curious. Because of her, I have a better appreciation for the word “Daddy” 🤣. I wonder if she will be a love interest for Ethan 🤔 I love the buildup of the sexual intensity. I just love to imagine Jonathan getting all unraveled and frazzled. Definitely lots and lots of spanking that even I imagined my bum feeling sore. Book 2, here I come!!!!

Unexpected. Hot. Complex.

The story and these characters are a continuation of the complex universe Rina Kent has woven. I am in love with Aurora- bright, brave and damaged, she has re-invented herself and made herself anew after unspeakable devastation in her family. Jonathan lures her into his orbit, but finds while control is always his endgame, Aurora is figuring out what makes him tick. He might not be in control like he thought. Great story- can’t wait for part 2!

I liked this.

I'm becoming a sucker for age gap romances 🤤. I think I need to listen to book 2 before I decide on liking this or not; there's some hot scenes but not much steam. I am interested in other parts of the story.
Yup, gets much better towards the end.

Painful listen

I don’t know where all these positive reviews come from. The narration and story line are terrible. The book was all over the place and random characters were introduced with confusing backstories. I only made it through 3 painful hours and then asked to return the title. Not worth the two credits for the duet.

Highly Addictive & Entertaining!

Evil or misunderstood? Jonathan King is the kind of character we all love to hate. We have been teased mercilessly throughout the Royal Elite series and now we finally get to see the man behind the mask. It’s dark and deliciously twisted and jam packed full of secrets and lies. This installment of Jonathan and Aurora’s story has so many unanswered questions. The cliffhanger ending left me screaming for more.

Another successful collaboration between Rina Kent, Shane East and Keira Stevens. Shane and Keira’s amazing voices makes each one of Rina’s wonderful characters resonate, taking this story to a whole other level.

at least I was doing something ese while listening

I don't recommend it at all, narrators trying hard is like one "super intense/overdramatic" sentence after the other..and so so so slow. The story has no sense ..not even for dark romance.

Pushed up to the full 5 stars for the narration

I thought I was ready to get into the mind of Daddy King. I was not. And you are not. I have questions. I have feelings. I'm not quite entirely over this and all my thoughts have scattered, but I just went through the entire ring of emotions with this and I am ready for book 2 NOW. THIS. WAS. STUNNING. Throw in the duel narration with the MARVELLOUS team of Shane and Kiera and you get sucked entirely into a whole new level of King. I volunteered to read and review a complimentary copy of this. My opinions are my own.

Book 1 The story hasn’t gripped me

I don’t know what to make of this story, I had high hopes for it. It’s not dark, I’m slightly bored and I’m debating on whether to give book 2 a pass and not bother to finish the story. The main female character does an awful lot of talking in the mind and I’m not a huge fan of books that are written in this way. The narrators are very good, it’s the content that’s disappointing. This book doesn’t have a romantic feel to it at all.

Wow

This was an amazing read. With such a dramatic end it has my heart beating. This writer was able to bleed the emotions on the page. Just brilliant.

Bloody Amazing

This book was freaking amazing! The narration is a duet!!!! The storyline was fantastic, and, the plot as a whole just completely sucks you in until you realise you are already at the end of the book. This does end on a cliffhanger but it is honestly such an amazing book that you will want to get the next one anyway. The suspense holds all the way through the book with you always staying on your toes. The story is full of plot twists and makes you desperate for more. Aurora - the female protagonist - is honestly someone you will absolutely fall in love with, with her strong will and resilience. Jonathan is someone you have to have insight into his perspective to truly start to love him, although I reckon after a while you wouldn't even need that insight. He is definitely a character you probably won't love on-sight although, that is something that can be argued to be one of the best ways to be introduced a character into a story with a full insight into the person. This is definitely a book I would recommend if you are someone who loves bully romances with dark themes. I hope you love it as much as I do. Enjoy!!
