Publisher's summary

In this gripping thriller set in New Zealand, New York Times best-selling author Nalini Singh takes you into the twisted world of an exclusive cul-de-sac located on the edge of a sprawling forest.

My mother vanished ten years ago.
So did a quarter of a million dollars in cash.
Thief. Bitch. Criminal.
Now, she's back.
Her bones clothed in scarlet silk.

When socialite Nina Rai disappeared without a trace, everyone wrote it off as another trophy wife tired of her wealthy husband. But now her bones have turned up in the shadowed green of the forest that surrounds her elite neighborhood, a haven of privilege and secrets that’s housed the same influential families for decades.

The rich live here, along with those whose job it is to make their lives easier. And somebody knows what happened to Nina one rainy night 10 years ago. Her son Aarav heard a chilling scream that night, and he’s determined to uncover the ugly truth that lives beneath the moneyed elegance...but no one is ready for the murderous secrets about to crawl out of the dark.

Even the dead aren’t allowed to break the rules in this cul-de-sac.

Critic reviews

"Nervy and unsettling noir [with] a legitimately and believably unreliable narrator." (The New York Times Book Review)

"Singh perfectly conveys the sleek architecture amid an unforgiving New Zealand forest...an unsettling thriller that deserves a wide audience." (Booklist)

“Singh sustains tension throughout, delivering a lushly written, multilayered mystery that will keep readers guessing. Susan Isaacs fans, take note.” (Publishers Weekly)

Quiet in Her Bones(bws)

Not what I was used to from Nalini Singh. I didn’t understand the structure . some of the relationships and the transcription sessions confused me. There were some surprises like pairing Avie with Lilly. For me there were too many so what and who cares moments. The situation with loss of Paige wasn’t clear early enough in the story.

Plot twist

At first I thought the crime was going to be committed by a way too obvious individual. However the author do a great job with the plot. I did not figure out the who!

Pleasant surprise of a read.

This book was a departure from the stories by Nalini Shingh that I am used to reading. The twisty turny plot kept me listening nonstop. I didn't guess who the killer was or that he was being setup. I whole hatredly recommend this book. BTW the narrator did a fantastic job.

What a great read

I never guessed who the killer was. I was blown away with the who done it. This is a terrific read and I can only hope that the MC gets into therapy soon. His parents really did him over.

Engrossing, surprising, highly recommend

The author was new to me; thank you, Audible, for the recommendation based on my other purchases. The plotting, characters and superb rendering of the environs of Auckland will keep you spellbound. As will the narration.

A sleeper hit

I first started listening to this thinking it’s a different style I’m not sure I could get used to it. But then quickly became wrapped up in the mystery of what happened to the main characters mom and what was happening in his life. I won’t spoil anything by telling you what happened but this was a very engrossing spellbinding book which I recommend highly

Not my favorite

I am a huge Nalini Singh fan, but this is my least favorite of all her books. The story bounces back-and-forth between characters, between time periods, and between periods of reality and hallucination, which I found confusing. I also just didn’t particularly like the central character. Considering how much I love the rest of Nalini’s work this certainly doesn’t deter me from future purchases. She can’t please everyone all the time.
