Acerca de esta escucha
Late in the 21st century, Earth receives what looks like an urgent plea for help from planet Proxima Centauri b in the closest star system to the Sun.
Astrophysicists suspect a massive solar flare is about to destroy this heretofore-unknown civilization. Earth's space programs are unequipped to help, but an unscrupulous Russian billionaire launches a secret and highly-specialized spaceship to Proxima b, over four light-years away.
The unusual crew faces a Herculean task - should they survive the journey. No one knows what to expect from this alien planet.

Historia
Two humans and a robot on their own in the Alpha Centauri system: Marchenko, Adam and Eve have found asylum on a planet inhabited by aliens. They could spend the rest of their lives here in peace. But apparently there are many more people who, like them, have been sent to alien systems without a return ticket and without being asked - castaways with uncertain fates who need their help. Their alien rescuers generously offer to take them on a search in one of their spaceships.

No one has ever ventured deeper into space than the four astronauts of Shepherd-1. The aim of their mission is to witness the creation of the cosmos. Using the sun as a lens, they are to align a flock of probes in such a way that the moment of the Big Bang becomes visible. For astronomer Christine, this is a dream come true. So she is bitterly disappointed when the first images are obscured by a kind of veil that prevents any insight. As if nearly burning up in a freak accident on her way to Earth wasn't bad enough, Daisy had a whole mess of other trouble on her plate. Big trouble. And she was going to get to the bottom of it if it was the last thing she'd do, which it was starting to look like it very well might be. The thing is, Daisy had a simple rule for space travel. Don't blow up, and so far she'd been managing to abide by that, but mere survival wasn't enough.

Ian Stevens, director of the Deep Space Research Institute, isn’t interested in conducting research just for the sake of research. While the rest of the world - including the US Government - thinks that’s the DSRI’s sole mission, Stevens is actually interested in more - he wants manned space travel and the colonization of the moon. With NASA defunct, few scientific probes are being launched, and no one even talks about human spaceflight anymore. Stevens is out to change that.

Merritt Alder is done with Earth. The planet is polluted and overpopulated, and its people are hungry. Earth's first colony, Galena, is a pioneer world 10,000 light years away. It has clean air, unpolluted water, and continents of arable land. Anyone can start a new life…if they can get there. For Merritt, the journey is only the beginning. Obstacles arise every step of the way, forcing compromise and sacrifice. And not everyone on his ship is pure of heart. The bonds he forges on the journey will be the key to surviving on another world—a world anyone has yet to fully explore.

Historia
Two hundred years ago, aliens invaded Earth. A violent war followed. The enemy won. Some of us escaped, most of us didn’t. On Proxima they flourished - the invasion forgotten. On Earth we floundered - the horror began. Their world is advanced, peaceful, and secure. Our world is broken, savage, and overrun. A new invasion is coming. A hunger that has swallowed half the universe. They don’t care which planet we live on. They want to end us all. But where there is life, there is hope. And where there is hope, there are heroes. This time, vengeance will be ours.

A nice pairing
I enjoyed this book and the narrator was, as always, amazing. I love his voice and find it to be very soothing. The story that the author has written is quite fabulous, I listened in one day, had to keep going. Where there is only one person, yet to be joined by Adam & Eve to grow as they get to their mission is very well written.the, action and science is believable. I’m hoping that the 2nd book is just as exciting, I want more alien interaction, friendly or not so friendly.
I highly recommend this for the story and narration. I do believe I have not heard or read anything by this author before, looking forward to the next book!

Good Story… Unfortunate Cliffhanger Ending
Liked the story premise and performance just fine. Novel concepts for otherwise impossible human travel to another star. Not that there is anything wrong with having multiple books in a series but one must ease the reader/listener into the transition more smoothly than this title does and certainly not make it look like the break was done solely to get you to paying for the next installment but having that next installment ready to go offering a preview teaser at the end. Had this title left the reader with a more satisfying ending with a epilogue summarizing generally how the protagonists moved on from nearly loosing their guiding AI and at least exploring the discovery at the end some with lots of questions for the next book, maybe the ending would not have seemed so calculated. You have to leave the listener with the option to feel the ending was satisfying enough NOT to consume another credit or buy another book. If the story and writing is good enough then moving the audience to the next book does not require marketing gimmicks. The author chooses to just end the story hanging having overcome a serious threat and the implication that the threat may (and probably will) return in the next book(s). Not sure I feel like rewarding that behavior by using a credit to listen to the rest of the story. BTW, i’ve noticed a TREND when it comes to book series on Audible… let the subscribers stream the first book in the series ONLY and use credits for the rest. See how that works?

Wonderfully fascinating trip ....
from the perspective of the AI. An intriguingly mysterious story. All told in a most soothing of voices. A great tale without the depravity & gross perverseness of typical modern stories. This proves entertainment can be had without being dragged through the gutter of human decline.

It was okay
The book was only 8 hours long. Same for the second one. Could have easily combined the two into one book. Not worth another credit to find out.

Interesting story but one book is enough!
Especially towards the end.= with all the twist and turns. Perhaps if they had just allowed the prologue to the next book to play, I may have been interested in listening to the subsequent books, but listening to the next story bored me. On book is sufficient.

Not much of a story
The concept of a space ship being launched from Earth ,at 60% the speed of light, that is the size of a pencil and containing an AI and nano manufacturing facility is fascinating. The ship is literally built molecule by molecule on the journey and arrives full size at the next star with cloned human beings. Once this early part of the journey is complete, the rest of the story is a slow uninteresting exploration of the new planet by the only two passengers delivered by the ship. While there are many mysteries to solve about the missing original inhabitants of the planet, the story reads more like a science book of cataloging and planning, with very little interpersonal interactions of any interest. There's a lot that could have been interjected into this story that would have made it fascinating, but is sorely missing.

Uh...
Great beginning and narrative and slowly petered out into boring nothingness. Idiotic AI story so common these days. I'm not a fan of AI stories. They're just an excuse for authors to not develop real characters. No credible sci fi here. Stopped short of finishing book near the end.

Great! I could not put it down.
Real science fiction. Although it streches science, it was believable. I looked the story and the characters.
