Publisher's Summary
Do you promise you'll always be here for me?
It was a game they played, only it wasn't a game. Maggie Marks held on to Elijah's childhood promises as a way of escaping a life that was far from perfect. Elijah Lugo was her neighbor, her best friend, her family. He was everything her parents refused to be, everything she needed. He was her first kiss and a witness to more of her father's drunken rants than she could count. He was there at her wedding and then held her when it all fell apart. Elijah was in love with her, but she was afraid loving him would eventually mean losing him too.
They were no longer kids, pretending everything would work out in the end.
When Maggie's father reenters her life in an unexpected way, revealing long held secrets, her world is turned upside down and she will need Elijah more than ever.
A story of friendship and family - the promises you make and the ones you keep.

This was a good one
I got this book via audiobook boom and am excited to write this review. I did not read book one but this one was very good. Maggie, Elijah, Kimberly, Jason, Makala were very well portrayed. Even Jake who was as bad as Maggie's Dad was ok in the end. This story switched back and forth from the past to present but did so seamlessly. I am glad that in spite of the abuse Maggie endured as a child she came out whole. This story was less than six hours long but very well developed. The narrator did a good job and I was able to distinguish each character. Worth listening to.

What a book!!!
Both the author and narrator were new to me on this book. I loved the story of Promises. Some promises are kept, some are broken, some are changed. This is a sweet love story that compasses so much. The author did a great job of character development and wrote an original story. The narrator did a very good performance, it was just was difficult to differentiate between the various characters. I felt this book was full of hope after betrayal and so many emotions. This is a standalone listen. I was voluntarily provided with this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, narrator, and or publisher.

Heartfelt Romance Between Best Friends
This is an emotional story with some sad and heartfelt moments. The main character has gone through a lot with her alcoholic father and stepmother.
The narrator did a great job bringing the story to life and expressing emotions.
Promises is a story of best friends that are always there for each other. The story goes back and forth a bit to reveal how things were like when they were kids and now. It is a pretty clean teen/young adult book that has great characters and a strong story line.
I'm looking forward to reading more from this talented author.

Promises made, only one broken
This is the first book I've read/listened to by Michelle Lynn. It was a good standalone, clean romance with heartbreaking moments. My heart did go out to both Elijah and Maggie, but their story was a bit frustrating for me. I can't really explain without spoilers. Overall it was a good, shorter book. I think those are the hardest to write. Lynn Devereux is a wonderful narrator. She is the reason I requested a code for this book. She does both male and female voices well and is so easy to listen to for longer periods of time.

Beautiful with all the feels!
Wow, so much more of a story than I expected. It had all the feels. I love the friends to lovers story. There was plenty of heartbreak but so much love. I was so happy for them by the end. The narrator did a great job as well. I didn't realize when I started that it was book 2 of a series and it was so good I am heading to read the first one in the series! Her reading and the way she uses her voice so that you understand the full emotion of the character
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It was a very heartwarming book that clearly showed the importance of faithful friends and also of falling in love with your best friend

Loved This!
Any additional comments?
Wow! I I just loved Promises! This is Book 2 in the New Beginnings series and is a standalone. Elijah's friendship helped Maggie through a difficult childhood and remembering his promises to her as a child were a coping mechanism for her. When her marriage fell apart, it was Elijah who helped her pick up the pieces of her life and move forward.
Wonderfully narrated, this was a great story of friendship and love. Promises was a delight to listen to and I would highly recommend it.

A clean romance
Any additional comments?
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
SPOILER!!
The story line is good however, I don't understand why she chose Jake. I felt she was contradicting herself after what she told Elijah at the beginning of the book, so I was surprised when we find out that she marries Jake. If I was in her situation I would have gone with Elijah based on his character.
I also felt Maggie took Elijah for granted. When ever he broke a promise (for a good reason) she had a fit. Yes she forgave him after wards but that still did not give her the right, in my opinion, to act the way she did after the way he has looked after her. I felt that she is blind to his feelings. Everyone else can see that he liked her except her! I did not feel that Maggie deserved Elijah, he worked really hard to win her over and be her friend. I felt he got nothing in return. I believed in his love for her but not her love for him.
I would still recommend the book since there are other things going on in the story. I would still read/listen to other books by this author.

Promises made...Promises kept...
A great listen by author Michelle Lynn and narrator Lynn Devereux, Promises is the second novel in the New Beginnings Series, however I did not read the first one.. This is a story of love, family, and friendship. Promises shows how Maggie and Elijah, best friends from childhood move past their own fears, hurts, pains, struggles and trust in each other in order to find the love and happiness they both desire. I highly recommend this book.
